Libertarians have some good ideas, and some bad ones... but I like personal responsibility, so I'll go with them....

Michael Bednarik is the dude...

Then you should vote republican. No one has been sexier than Cheney was during that debate. Strong, wise, interesting, powerful. He makes everyone else look soft.

I have to find out more about these Libertarians. I was an independent, then my best friend, who is a green, convenced me to join about two months ago. I've always been a bit uneasy about this however. While there are a great deal of things in their platform that I totally agree with, there seem to be just as many things that they couldn't be more wrong about. If any of you could tell me a bit about the Libertarian party I would be truly thankful.

Putting things into a category is something I have deep hatred of. The whole world is in categories. There is no escaping categories; not putting myself in a known category is actually putting myself into a category of its own. blahhhh...hope that makes sense. Anyway, I will be in the non-category category.

To know what party I say I belong to...here in Canada it's the NDP, secondly Liberal.

Yes, I am sort of left leaning I guess, more-so than right, but I like guns.... whatever..

A little caveat...They have bad education policy...

Catagories, or groups, are not really a bad thing though. These concepts are actually what allows us to function as a society. It's in our nature to form groups (tribes) and pool knowledge and information in order to best apply ourselves as a society, and to grow and advance in culture and knowledge.

Imagine a society where this wasn't the case. It wouldn't be a society at all, but a collection of lonely automotons. We would never have had any reason to attempt any sort of specialist based society, with farmers, doctors, and other specialists that allow us to spend our time attempting to advance ourselves, instead of just spending our waking hours trying to sustain ourselves. Advances in agriculture, architecture, and science wouldn't have been achieved, and we never would have made it out of the primitive stages of existence. I see they fact that we can combine our energies to achieve something greater than the sum of it's parts as something that defines us, not hinders us. Naturally, there is a downside to this (like everything has), which is probably what is running through your mind. Anyone who has been through high school will understand how a group of people can get together and target those not included in their little group, but this is only natural, as animals do it as well...

As bad as these events can seem, just think about how you have aquired a good group of friends over the years (unless you are quite young), which is a fact that showcases how groups can be good. Politically, there MUST be opposing groups to maintain any semblance of checks and balances...

I like that, by this definition, Mofo is a tribe.

If I have to pick one, I'll take Republican. I think economic freedom has been marginalized over the last few decades, and the Republican party has been far more aggressive in reversing that trend. So, they usually get my vote. Take that, poor people!

I differ with most of the party on some social issues (legalization of marijuana, civil unions), however.

Interesting, what are your thoughts on The War on Drugs?

Gummo pleeeease stop! Take a breath, look around and walk with me out of here! Remember it is the war and not the warrior. C'mon love, easy steps...with me, that's it...we are almost there!

We simply can not let that happen.

Whoa! We've made it!

True, Sedai, categories don't have to be a bad thing. People often put things into a category so that others know whether or not to like a certain thing. An easy example for me to explain is in music. I remember an interview with an artist (will not mention names because of judgement) who was asked the question,"What genre or music category would you put yourself in?" The musician answered that he "will not put himself in a category." the interviewer then asked, "then how will people know if they like you?" music then started a new category of music, "grunge". It is the same with all things in life. I will not deny that I am in a catagory, many categories; that I am sometimes prejudice towards groups (political mainly). I don't deny that I don't listen carefully or pay close attention to things that I have little or no interest in. I hate that things have to be organized into groups, mainly groups of class.
