Zotis Has Returned

Tools

Hi there everyone, it's Zotis. I was interested in coming back after being banned for a number of years. Reaching out to Yoda, he graciously offered to give me another chance. I just wanted to say thank you to him, and I hope to earn everyone's trust again eventually. In the past I butted heads with a lot of people, and argued abrasively, insulting others and eventually getting myself banned. I'm not sure exactly how many years it's been, but I've had a lot of time to reflect and grow as a person over the years. When I would think back on my years as a member, I found that I had a lot of fond memories. So I'll do my best to behave differently from now on and appreciate the privilege of being here. I hope to reflect that in the way I treat other people, instead of the entitled attitude I used to have. I acted like I had a right to be here, and to freely express myself the way I wanted to. I often fell into the trap of letting kindness leave me when I responded insensitively with harsh words.

I especially want to apologize to @Miss Vicky, @Iroquois, @Stirchley, @mojofilter, and all the other people that I ofended with harsh words, insults, and abraisive arguments.

Trouble with a capital "T"
Zotis good to see you!...I always liked you and found talking with you interesting, interesting is good. You were one of the banned members that I wished could come back to MoFo. Kudos for asking Yoda to come back, and kudos to Yoda for letting you!

@Citizen Rules thanks, that means a lot. After I got banned, I couldn't find anything else online like this place. Just a place to hang out and talk about movies with other cinema enthusiasts. Old school style forums like this hardly exist anymore, and the trends of places like reddit, anilist, and 4chan are geared towards this constant feed that everything just gets lost in.

I also always enjoyed our interactions. Glad you've still stuck around.

The trick is not minding
Honestly, I was partly to blame for the misunderstandings. And I always felt badly about how things ended. How I responded to you often wasn’t the best approach, so I apologize for that.
I’m glad to see your return.
Welcome back to Mofo.
May your stay be more permanent.

I remember we butted heads initially, but I thought we were on good terms for the most part after that. Anyway, no hard feelings.

You're the only person I blocked literally everywhere. And I hardly block people at all.
You blocked me? I had no idea. I thought we were still on good terms. I always enjoyed talking with you about arthouse films, because you have great taste in cinema.

Have you learned some modesty and humility since then?
Of course! Otherwise I wouldn't have even dared return.

Don't tell me you went all atheist now.
Nope, still Christian.

so I'll preach about being mean and watching lusty and sinful stuff to you now.
Please don't, lol. :P

Yup, there's no place around like MoFo, not these days anyway. I read at reddit sometimes for computer help, etc, but on those kind of sites community just isn't there.

FYI, We're about to start the 34th HoF here in a week or so and the more the merrier. We're also doing the MoFo Top 100 Musicals countdown and SpelingError has the Musical Group Watch, which is fun and no commitments. Check them out if you have the time.

@Citizen Rules oh man, musicals are one of the movie genres I have the toughest time with. I just so rarely can actually get into the music and whatever they're doing, like the way the actors are singing along and dancing within the plot. But I'll keep an eye on it. Maybe I'll find a few musical gems that I actually do like.

You always struck me as insufferable, but I couldn't quite point out why exactly.

Of course! Otherwise I wouldn't have even dared return.
I know you and your honeyed words. We'll see how it goes. I'm looking forward to our fights in the future.

Nope, still Christian.
Oh, meaning you're still wrong. Very well, then.

Please don't, lol. :P
We all know that all the IDs won't collect themselves, friend. That's a decent film taste you got there in your fav list. Creates a premise of an interesting cinephile. Be a shame if something happened to it.

Yeah, I was pretty arrogant and blunt. I rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. I wasn't careful about the way I talked, like "Hey, if you're offended that's not my problem..." Kinda thing.

I know you and your honeyed words. We'll see how it goes. I'm looking forward to our fights in the future.

Na na, I'm not interested in fighting with people anymore. I hope we get along. So, did you ever watch Terayama's The Boxer?

It's just the best ten of the most recent films I've seen. I'm saving my real top 10 for after I finish my top 100 thread.

So, what have you been exploring lately cinema-wise?

So basically me, but you were different so I just don't think your description is complete.

How boring of you. Can you please stop behaving like a female and just challenge me for a spillikins duel like a real man?

So, did you ever watch Terayama's The Boxer?
Not yet. Looks like it was finally released in HD 3 weeks ago. Time to finally watch it?

Great. I give you two days before I lose interest.

So, what have you been exploring lately cinema-wise?
Nothing specific, really. Just jumping around watching an Ozu here, a Shimizu there.

I'm not sure who you are or what you specifically did to get banned, but I'm glad to hear you're in a better place now. I'm sure all of us have done some bad things in the past, me included, but even though you can't take them back, recognizing your faults and making it a point to ensure they don't happen again goes a long way.

So basically me, but you were different so I just don't think your description is complete.
Well, I can only speculate so much. It's not our world-views colliding? Maybe it's just a personality thing, or certain things I say and opinions I have.

How boring of you. Can you please stop behaving like a female and just challenge me for a spillikins duel like a real man?
Ha, I had to look up Spillikins. Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see if anything to duel over comes up.

Definitely! Man, I've been having such a hard time finding any of Terayama's films other than The Boxer. I still haven't been able to find Farewell to the Ark, Pastoral: To Die in the Country, or Emperor Tomato Ketchup anywhere. Actually, now that I say that, I just looked and did find Pastoral: To Die in the Country, so I'm watching that now.

Great. I give you two days before I lose interest.

I'll have to start my top 100 over though, as I lost the original hard drive it was on and have to rebuild it from scratch, and I've seen a bunch of new additions in recent years, so the bottom ranks will bump off. But I'll post something soon.

Oh yeah, for sure. Have you seen Marebito? I found it second hand and picked it up without even realizing it was by Shimizu. I just love the gritty aesthetic of the low quality camera work combined with realistic acting that's not play like or obviously acting. It gives it a really found footage authenticity, and that realism enhances the horror element in my opinion. It's a philosophical horror too, so I felt like I could easily believe that it was real. The imagery of a beautiful woman chained up in an underground cavern was potent, and has saturated itself into my mind. Shimizu is undoubtedly a filmmaker who understands the essence of fear.
