There were only a couple that surprised me a little;
1408 I just expected it to be a "ohh, I see how that was meant to be scary" type movie, but it actually had its moments, Cusack played a really good part and overall it was a really enjoyable movie.
Hairspray Not for the script, the directing, the music, the singing. Not for anything but Christopher Walken. I didn't know he was in the movie and I am a huge fan of him and I was shocked in the theater, he plays such a good part in that, I don't think it would be so easy to portray someone sexually involved with a fat John Travolta in make up.
Smokin' Aces Definately one of the best films of the year. I thought it was going to be another Cop-Gang film that turns out with the cops winning, but Reynolds came across very well and not to mention the all-star cast coming across great aswell [apart form Alicia Keys, why? WHY? was she in that movie?] A lot of movies now cant pull the "giant twist" off at the end of the movie and still make it, but this one definitely did.
