I'm curious for those who enjoy The Departed, had you seen Infernal Affairs?

Having seen the story already and in a more fun way really dinged the experience for me.
Yes, Infernal Affairs was much better in my opinion. The Departed just exaggerated the characters mannerisms and performances. Whereas I Affairs gave much more depth and backstory.

Basterds is tremendous. Tarantino dialogue at its best. The opening is my favorite scene in any movie ever. The bar scene would compete if I made a top ten scene list. On my list at #9.

Don’t love Children Of Men yet. I thinks very good. Probably perfect on a technical level. Two viewings in and I just don’t connect enough for it to be a favorite. Not an Owen fan, and I think that could be part of the problem for me.

Tarantino is very hit and miss with me. "Basterds" is my second fave after "Jackie Brown".

" Children of Men" grabs you by the privies right out of the gate with the terrorist bombing. The short shot of the woman stumbling out of the smoke carrying her arm is pretty heavy.

Apparently Clare-Hope Ashitey's last name is filthy. We did have to teach the site's filter years ago that Alfred Hitchcock wasn't a porn star name. I don't hold out much hope for a kid I went to middle school with, Paula Stinky Cun*. Though technically that was a nickname.

I suppose I'd agree that it "gave" us that, but I think it did so by just sort of...throwing it out there. It felt like pure exposition. I suppose, then, I preferred the trade off wherein we got less back story, but it came out organically.

The performances kind of seem over the top in a vacuum, but feel in place in the film itself, which I think is true of a lot of great performances. There's some pretty OOT stuff in Scorsese's classics, too, but when it serves the purpose (paranoia), it can work. I think of The Departed kinda like Liotta's cocaine binge near the end of Goodfellas, except it stays like that for most of the film.

Seen both, voted neither. Basterds felt like trash tier Tarantino when I saw it, and I felt every minute of its considerable length. Never had any desire to rewatch it. Children of Men is quite nice. Not even close to being a favorite, but I've seen it at least twice and mostly enjoyed my time on both occasions.

Seen: 43/84

Well, that's the problem. The host doesn't know whats 2000. All these foreign films are just here to try to impress people like Wintertriangles and Mr Minio
Maybe, but then again, I'm not the reason something like Shaun of the Dead made it at #21 (I didn't vote for it) or something like The Hangover ended up at *checks notes* #128

Heh. Thanks, I'll have a look.

EDIT: okay, all fixed.
Ha! Didn't catch that. I'm seeing it fine, though. Did you fix something, Yoda?

Not adding the poster to your front page didn't help it's chances. Hell, Mean Girls is on there.

Thursday Next's Avatar
I never could get the hang of Thursdays.
We left off movies like Avatar, Revenge of the Sith, and Harry Potter. Shame on us.
I think you just want someone to make a video about you like that Downfall one

That Downfall video does still make me laugh, thanks for reposting @honeykid.

Oldboy was my #12. Just absolutely nuts, in a good way. Haven't seen the remake. I have seen Sympathy for Mr Vengeance but it just doesn't have the same energy.

O Brother Where Art Thou was just not for me.

Shaun of the Dead was my #14. It's one of those films that just has an endless rewatchability factor. It's only gone up in my estimation on repeat viewings.

I did not vote for The Departed but I did vote for Infernal Affairs. From the comments here, I think I might have been the only one. The Departed does expand on the premise of Infernal Affairs and it does have Jack Nicholson chewing up the scenery. I thought it was a decent film but it's not a favourite.

I have very, very mixed feelings about Inglourious Basterds. There bits that are pure brilliance, but bits I hate and find annoying and the whole thing doesn't quite hang together as a single film very well.

Children of Men I have only seen once, thought it was good but it seems to be much more popular on this forum than in the world in general. I did like it though and would quite like to rewatch it sometime. The book is good too.
