A Song For March (a song tourney with a difference)

Tools

Very good quality on this round. Had difficulties with the order from 2 to 5.

1. Dark Tribe - Nothing as Darkness
Chaotic and artsy black metal. I can totally get people hating this but I think it's great album. So unique.

2. Iron Claw - Skullcrusher
Really nice old school metal. Very doomy and I don't even mind the sound quality that much.

3. boris - naki kyoku
This one's actually good. I guess it could be a bit shorter but it never really gets bogged down.

4. Guns N' Roses - Paradise City
It's a good song but I prefer Illusions era GnR. Also it goes on too long. Quite a few views on the video.

5. Brahms - Violin Concerto, Movement 3
A bit more high energy classical for a change. Liked it quite a bit actually.

6. Queensryche - The Lady Wore Black
Not a fan of Tate's high vocals. It's an OK song I guess but the arrangement feels weak somehow.

7. Wolfmother - Apple Tree
I hate that punky chorus. Verses are fine though.

8. Drive-By Truckers - ******* Lonely Love
This doesn't make me feel lonely, just a little snoozy.

9. Bad Wolves - Zombie
I like the original quite a bit but this cover just feels wrong.

Queensryche - The Lady Wore Black From their debut LP with only four songs on it, remember seeing them at the time warming up for Twisted Sister (on their second record, You Can't Stop Rock n Roll) at a bar on Detroit's east side that, at the time, was owned by a local biker gang and was THE place rock bands just coming out before they got known enough to start hitting the arena circuit.

Guns N' Roses - Paradise City Always enjoyed GnR and I was sooo tempted to nominate a Slash tune and just never did.

Iron Claw - Skullcrusher sounds a lot like really old school Sabbath or bands like friijid pink and the like. And that's a good thing. And then I read in the comments that they WERE a band from the 70's -- no wonder they had that sound of that time. Gonna hafta look into these guys

Bad Wolves - Zombie Think I love the original a little too much to give this one it's due. But it IS a good rendition by all means.

Brahms - Violin Concerto, Movement 3 an invigorating piece I must say

Drive-By Truckers - God D@mn Lonely Love nice little song. Enjoyed that.

boris - naki kyoku this one goes to eleven!

Wolfmother - Apple Tree quite punky

Dark Tribe - Nothing as Darkness a little too cacophony for moi

There are 14 songs Ed, this ^ is only 12..

1. Guns N' Roses - You Could Be Mine

2. Guns N' Roses - Paradise City

3. Thin Lizzy - Emerald

(Tough, groovy, slick, bad-ass . . . This song has to be my favorite "discovery" from the tournament. Kudos to whoever nominated it.)

4. Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime
(Starting to think Queensryche is a much better band than I ever gave them credit for being.)

5. Sam Cooke - Nothing Can Change This Love

6. Alice in Chains - Would?

7. The Sisters of Mercy - Lucretia, My Reflection

8. Wisdom - War of Angels

(This must be from one of the rounds I missed. Very geeky metal, as if the band was formed during a Dungeons & Dragons tournament, but a very fun listen nonetheless.)

9. Jinjer - Pisces

10. Metallica - One

11. Beethoven - Symphony No. 5, Movement 1

(Another that I think I missed, although to be honest many of these classical pieces blur together for me. This one is quite dramatic, though, which makes it stand out. I admire @ahwell for sticking to his love of classical music throughout the tournament even if most of them didn't do well in the rankings. He helped to give a simpleton like myself a musical education.)

12. Garbage & Screaming Females - Because the Night
(Would probably love this if I'd never heard the Patti Smith version. At least this cover stands apart a bit thanks to this chick's ferocious shredding during the solo.)

13. The Moody Blues - Nights in White Satin
(I feel like this has been nominated in every song tournament. Its appearance results in an automatic eyeroll at this point.)

14. The Bangles - Hazy Shade of Winter

Just a note to say I've extended the voting deadline by 12 hours until 9PM (GMT) tomorrow.

Today's opinion. So hard to order the top half of this final. Also surprising that none of these songs are actually bad. No write-ups today but just wanted to mention that I didn't feel like One today and I hate the voice overs on the video so it's probably a bit lower than it deserves.

1. Guns N' Roses - You Could Be Mine
2. Garbage & Screaming Females - Because The Night
3. Alice in Chains - Would?

Also, just for reference I used this link for Guns N' Roses - You Could Be Mine as the original vid appears to have been removed. Meant to put this at the bottom of my voting post but I'm old and I forgot lol.
