Movie You're Watching Tonight

Yes, that was a good one. I like most of what Almodóvar does.

No guarantee that it would be better, of course, but I feel a move away from ‘misery porn’ could only be for the best. Even the big budget stuff feels very trite with how few characters have genuinely great, fulfilling sex, genuinely love spending time with their kids, like their spouses etc. And if that’s supposed to reflect reality — well, yes, but that all does exist. Maybe I’m paying too much attention to it.
I think that it's more that these are ways to easily derive conflict.

But I agree that a lot of films retread the presentation of the same types of conflict without saying anything about it. I just watched Vivarium and, like, you'll never believe this, but did you know that sometimes people feel pressured to be a perfect family and end up trapped in the suburbs?!

Tonight, I’ll be watching Office Space with a friend. Can’t wait! Haven’t seen that movie in a decade. It’s a comedy classic.

I was Lumberg for Halloween one year. Easy costume. But I bought an Initech mug which really made it lol

Lol, right? I kind of like Vivarium — just my brand of weird. But to your point, the conflict did feel a little bit artificial there.

Pacific Heights 1991 is on the tv as i listen to The Man Without Qualities, yes folks i hardly ever properly watch movies anymore, i don't ever wanna hear them again!! ick!! The bugs part is so gross

Movies I Could Watch Tonight
  • Gone With The Wind
  • The Color Of Money
  • Miller's Crossing
  • Mean Streets
  • Do The Right Thing
  • On The Waterfront

So got all these on Blu Ray recently that I haven't seen. Some problems I know The Color Of Money is a sequel to The Hustler right? Haven't seen that yet. Do The Right Thing I accidently bought on 4k...so would need to figure out a way to watch it lol. Mean Streets, Miller's Crossing and On The Waterfront got on that biannual Criterion sale. Pretty good deals. Got few more titles I've seen but don't own.

Leave it up to you if anyone feels like voting for tonight's flick.

I just didn't think it was a feature-length worthy premise.

It feels very repetitive once they find the baby. The central relationship between the two characters was never well developed, so there are no stakes as the stress drives a wedge between them.

I also don't love that the movie gives away everything in literally the opening credits.
WARNING: spoilers below
The baby is an impostor and they're being forced to raise it. And . . . that's it.

I think, on reflection, the problem for me is that the main characters end up being far too passive. There's no grit to it, no matter how many times Poots says, "I'm not your f*cking mother."

I don't actually wear pants.
Right now I'm in the middle of a documentary on D&D art. It's too noisy in the house for me to feel comfortable adding to the pandemonium. The documentary is kind of interesting. It's getting repetitive. There's only so many ways fifteen people can say, "D&D art is cool."

Addendum; they discussed more than just thinking D&D art is cool. They went over the history of how they developed D&D art and what lead to various parts of its history. It got better as it went.

I want to watch Twelve O'Clock High this evening too. I want more support for my right leg right now because the weather changed and is messing with my hip so I'd love to sit in bed except I can't until the kiddos are asleep, so it'll be a few hours. Maybe I'll watch Attack the Gas Station! or Topaz on DVD in the living room instead or first.

I hate insomnia. Oh yeah. Last year I had four cases of it, and each time it lasted three months.

I started Quiz Show thinking I could finish it, and then I got interrupted, so I'll wait until tomorrow to finish it. I'm falling asleep anyway so I think it's for the best. It's fine. I overestimated myself. I have it on loan for another two weeks so it's no big deal. I had forgotten most of the first half hour. I first watched the movie about ten years ago and haven't seen it since.
