Carroll Spinney, the 84-year old puppeteer and voice actor of Sesame Street's iconic Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch, has announced he will officially retire this week after a 49-year career.Spinney played Big Bird since the show's debut in 1969. He stopped the physical aspect of the role in 2015 due to health issues, but continued to voice both Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch. However, with his retirement, new voice actors will take over the roles for the iconic characters.
Tomorrow will mark Spinney's final appearance on Sesame Street.
