Top 5 Scariest Movies of All Time

Tools

Finally someone agrees with me about Event Horizon and the person is not from America. Take that HK.

Why do so many people thing the Descent was scarey, I just thought it was a good bloody horror movie. Just my opinion of course.
I thought it was the spatial horror more than monster in caves trying to eat you. Of course that added to the tension. The whole direction and cinematography was pitch perfect, it would have equally as nerve racking without the monsters. Though they do add a startling visceral element.

Also, add me to that Event Horizon camp. It's dated a bit on the last watch but i've always rated that film.

Event Horizon definitely has it's moments - I'm thinking the strobe lit duct scene, and baby bear's airlock disaster in particular. Sure it's Hellraiser in space, but as disposable midnite movies go; it's pretty darn entertaining and I keep going back for more.

Chappie doesn't like the real world
Ringu-Some parts just terrifying.

Paranormal Activity- I watched it alone in the dark thinking "hah, I'm a 27 year old man this won't scare me". I was very wrong.
I thought The Ring was scarier than Ringu but both left me unable to sleep.

I saw Paranormal Activity in the theater and screamed like a banshee. If I think about that movie too much I'll still freak myself out.

Jaws has had the most lasting impression. I have a rule about water. If I can't see what's in the water with me I don't go in. Period. Swimming pools and clear springs are the only thing I'll swim in.

^ Ah yes, [REC] creeped me out too, the end scenes with that night vision are extremely freaky, and a wonderful specialist actor in that sequence.
Night vision scenes always scare the bejeesus out of me. The only one that made me more tense was the one from Silence of the Lambs.

These are my personal top 5 that really freaked me out and/or had me at the edge of my seat throughout the movie:
The Haunting of Emily Rose
Paranormal Activity
Burning Bright
Bats (more so when I was a kid, this movie terrified me)
The Haunting in Conneticuit

I watched only first Paranormal Activity...i was bored as hell,so what about second film,is it boring as first or scary?

If we're going that route.....

....how these were meant for kids!

I completely agree here. When I first watched it, I really thought it would scare the living ***** out me. It didn't. I don't think The Descent is one of the scariest films I've ever watched, but the manner in which it created a certain atmosphere by means of cinematography and natural environment, is a thing of beauty. I actually thought the film's better moments came before we saw those creatures. After that, it went a bit downhill for me, but was still very good as a survival flick where the dangers came from both the creatures and the humans.

I haven't seen tons of horror but:

5.) The Grudge
Saw it when I was very young and gave me nightmares. Was scared of a freaky thing dragging me down from the bottom of the bed for quite a while.

4.) Halloween
Perhaps the master of psychological horror. Tense, suspenseful, creepy, everything a horror film should do, but doesn't do nowadays.

3.) Don't Look Now
As above, but the ending still sort of ruins it for me now.

2.) The Shining
My favourite horror film of all time. The best!

1.) The Exorcist
Absolutely. Saw it the other night for the first time, let's just say that I didn't sleep very well last night lol.

Lots of people think the 2nd is scarier than the first, but in my opinion, the first is MUCH scarier. Gunna see the third soon!!

From what I can remember in the past 2 years, these are some that gave me a real good scare:

28 Weeks Later - 28 Days Later was pretty scary, but this one is just heart-stopping. I can't even look sometimes and I tried to think of happy moments. It was a turning point in my life, after watching this I found almost all plain horror movies not scary and rather boring
30 Days of Night - I was scared and laughing at the same time coz one of my buddies can't stop screaming "Oh Sh*t!"
The Descent - One of the few that really are scary and great movie at the same time.
Session 9 - Very creepy, I'd love to watch this again this Halloween.
