I'm looking for a family movie about a young princess who goes into hiding. The movie was NOT Princess Protection Program (2009), although the two movies had very similar plots.I remember watching it (repeatedly) on a DVD from the library as a small child, so some details might be off.
Here's what I remember:
- live action, probably made in 1990s/2000s
- comedy, very lighthearted
- mpaa rating was either G or PG
- main character was a white girl (prob age 10-12) with long brown hair (and bangs?)
- she wore a long, hot pink satin dress with high, white gloves at one point
- basic premise: a princess (the girl) needs to go into hiding, is brought to America and must pretend to be a typical student
- possibly a horse was involved at some point
- she may have tried to eat a hamburger with a knife and fork
Specific scenes/lines:
- in the beginning, the girl stands on a skateboard and puts her arms out - servants on either side take her arms and pull her forward, possibly down a ramp
- ^^^ same scene, girl is wearing a hot pink dress
- a guard tells the girl that they have found the exact opposite of her name (it was either Gertrude or Geraldine) but the girl wrinkles her nose and uses a different name (Olivia?) instead
- at school, the other kids stand in the lunch line. the girl sits down and folds her hands expectantly. When a boy sits down across from her, she says "why thank you" and tries to take his tray from him
- ^^^ cafeteria was outside(?) but under a roof, like a pavilion
- when introducing herself, she mispronounces Connecticut as Connect-icut
- at one point the other kids learn that she (or possibly another girl?) is the princess (through a newspaper?)
- ^^^ a younger girl student throws hot pink rose petals on the ground before she (or the other girl?) walks on it
- the girl sees some boys with a skateboard and is excited (she calls it something else though). When the boys allow her to try, she stands with both feet on the board and puts her arms out expectantly like in the scene from the beginning
- ^^^ the boys ask her what she's waiting for, she pushes off and falls (into garbage?), the boys laugh
