I thought this was a pretty solid movie. It definitely has some sappy moments but I thought the set pieces were pretty massive and the moment where the one guy gets his head ripped off with a canon ball was brutal.

It's probably Roland Emmerich's best film, quite enjoyable, good performances (Why isn't Jason Isaacs given more villainous roles) and some nicely staged battle scenes help overcome a sometimes hopelessly cheesy screenplay.
