I am having a nervous breakdance
The Band Played Waltzing Matilda

When I was a young man I carried my pack
And I lived the free life of a rover
From the Murrays green basin to the dusty outback
I waltzed my Matilda all over
Then in nineteen fifteen my country said Son
It's time to stop rambling 'cause there's work to be done
So they gave me a tin hat and they gave me a gun
And they sent me away to the war
And the band played Waltzing Matilda
As we sailed away from the quay
And amidst all the tears and the shouts and the cheers
We sailed off to Gallipoli

How well I remember that terrible day
How the blood stained the sand and the water
And how in that hell that they called Suvla Bay
We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter
Johnny Turk he was ready, he primed himself well
He chased us with bullets, he rained us with shells
And in five minutes flat he'd blown us all to hell
Nearly blew us right back to Australia
But the band played Waltzing Matilda
As we stopped to bury our slain
We buried ours and the Turks buried theirs
Then we started all over again

Now those that were left, well we tried to survive
In a mad world of blood, death and fire
And for ten weary weeks I kept myself alive
But around me the corpses piled higher
Then a big Turkish shell knocked me arse over tit
And when I woke up in my hospital bed
And saw what it had done, I wished I was dead
Never knew there were worse things than dying
For no more I'll go waltzing Matilda
All around the green bush far and near
For to hump tent and pegs, a man needs two legs
No more waltzing Matilda for me

So they collected the cripples, the wounded, the maimed
And they shipped us back home to Australia
The armless, the legless, the blind, the insane
Those proud wounded heroes of Suvla
And as our ship pulled into Circular Quay
I looked at the place where my legs used to be
And thank Christ there was nobody waiting for me
To grieve and to mourn and to pity
And the band played Waltzing Matilda
As they carried us down the gangway
But nobody cheered, they just stood and stared
Then turned all their faces away

And now every April I sit on my porch
And I watch the parade pass before me
And I watch my old comrades, how proudly they march
Reliving old dreams of past glory
And the old men march slowly, all bent, stiff and sore
The forgotten heroes from a forgotten war
And the young people ask, "What are they marching for?"
And I ask myself the same question
And the band plays Waltzing Matilda
And the old men answer to the call
But year after year their numbers get fewer
Some day no one will march there at all

Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
Who'll go a waltzing Matilda with me
And their ghosts may be heard as you pass the Billabong
Who'll go a waltzing Matilda with me?

They had temporarily escaped the factories, the warehouses, the slaughterhouses, the car washes - they'd be back in captivity the next day but
now they were out - they were wild with freedom. They weren't thinking about the slavery of poverty. Or the slavery of welfare and food stamps. The rest of us would be all right until the poor learned how to make atom bombs in their basements.

Very overplayed song… but I like the lyrics…

"Boulevard Of Broken Dreams"

I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
and I'm the only one and I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk a...

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone

Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Aaah-ah,
Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Ah-ah

I'm walking down the line
That divides me somewhere in my mind
On the border line
Of the edge and where I walk alone

Read between the lines
What's ****ed up and everything's alright
Check my vital signs
To know I'm still alive and I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk a...

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone

Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Aaah-ah
Ah-ah, Ah-ah

I walk alone
I walk a...

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk a...

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone...

Neutral Milk Hotel
Bowl of Oranges by Bright Eyes

The rain, it started tapping on the window near my bed. There was a loophole in my dreaming,
so I got out of it. And to my surprise my eyes were wide and already open.
Just my nightstand and my dresser where those nightmares had just been.
So I dressed myself and left then, out into the gray streets.
But everything seemed different and completely new to me.
The sky, the trees, houses, buildings, even my own body.
And each person I encountered, I couldn't wait to meet.
I came upon a doctor who appeared in quite poor health.
I said "{I am terribly sorry but} there is nothing I can do for you
{that} you can't do for yourself."
He said "Oh yes you can. Just hold my hand. I think that would help."
So I sat with him a while and then I asked him how he felt.
He said, "I think I'm cured. No, in fact, I'm sure.
Thank you Stranger, for your therapeutic smile."
So that is how I learned the lesson that everyone is alone.
And your eyes must do some raining if you are ever going to grow.
But when crying don't help and you can't compose yourself.
It is best to compose a poem, an honest verse of longing or simple song of hope.
That is why I'm singing...
Baby don't worry cause now I got your back. And every time you feel like crying,
I'm gonna try and make you laugh. And if I can't, if it just hurts too bad,
then we will wait for it to pass and I will keep you company
through those days so long and black.
And we'll keep working on the problem we know we'll never solve
Of Love's uneven remainders, our lives are fractions of a whole.
But if the world could remain within a frame like a painting on a wall.
Then I think we would see the beauty.
Then we would stand staring in awe at our still lives posed like a bowl of oranges,
like a story told by the fault lines and the soil.

Primus - Spegetti Western

Why do we do this C.G. and I?
Every night vegetables
Minds numbed up by THC.
I've got my pen, C.G. the remote
Laurel and Hardy's the best bet at Four A.M. On a Friday
No dreads about the working day
Funny thing about weekends when you're unemployed, they don't quite mean so much
Except you get to hang out with all your working friends
Well we got us a spegetti western on 36
I like spegetti westerns
I like the way the boots are all reverbed out
Walking across the hardwood floors
In fact, everything's got that big reverb sound
Well what'll I do now?
Go to sleep
Pull the pud
We need new pornos
Well, I guess I'm still writing...

Bigmouth Strikes Again

Sweetness
sweetness I was only joking when I said
I'd like to smash every tooth in your head.
Oh sweetness
sweetness I was only joking when I said
by rights you should be bludgeoned in your bed.

And now I know how joan of arc felt
now I know how joan of arc felt
as the flames rose to her roman nose
and her discman started to melt

Bigmouth la da dum da da
bigmouth la da da da, bigmouth strikes again
and I've got no right to take my place
in the human race
Oh
bigmouth la da dum da da
bigmouth la da da da
bigmouth strikes again
and I've got no right to take my place
in the human race

Hello Salem, my name's Winifred. What's yours
Betray Me by Adema
I watched you change, I never knew
That you would be, Like all the rest
You were so true, too good to be true
I trusted you, and fell apart again

I cannot change the fact, that you're not coming back
So depressed, I'm your slave

Betray me
You're not the one, to be trusted with my love
Betray me
You're not the one, who should be trusted with my love

I had to leave, so I could breathe
I hate to fight, that's not what I want
You were so true, too good to be true
I trusted you, and fell apart again

I cannot change the fact, that you're not coming back

So depressed, I'm your slave

Betray me
You're not the one, to be trusted with my love
Betray me
You're not the one, who should be trusted with my love

I know

I cannot change the fact, that you're not coming back
So depressed, I'm your slave

Betray me
You're not the one, to be trusted with my love
Betray me
You're not the one, who should be trusted with my love

I cannot change the fact, that you're not coming back
So depressed, I'm your slave

Out of Control - Hoobastank

I've done everything as you say
I've followed your rules without question
I thought it would help me see things clearly
But instead of helping me to see
I look around and it's like I'm blinded

I'm spinning out of control
Out of control
I'm spinning out of control
Out of control

Where should I go?
What should I do?
I don't understand what you want from me
Cause I don't know
If I can trust you
I don't understand what you want from me

I feel like I'm spinning out of control
Try to focus but everything's twisted
And all alone I thought you would be there
(Thought you would be there)
To let me know I'm not alone
But in fact that's exactly what I was

I'm spinning out of control
Out of control
I'm spinning out of control
Out of control

Where should I go?
What should I do?
I don't understand what you want from me

Cause I don't know
If I can trust you
All of the things you've said to me

I may never know the answer
To this endless mystery

Where should I go?
What should I do?
I don't understand what you want from me

Is it a mystery?
Is it a mystery?

I'm spinning out of control
Out of control
I'm spinning out of control
Out of control
I'm spinning out of control
Out of control
I'm spinning out of control...

Where should I go?
What should I do?
I don't understand what you want from me
Cause I don't know
If I can trust you
All the things you've said to me

And I may never know the answer
To this endless mystery

Where should I go?
What should I do?
I don't understand what you want from me

I'm spinning out of control
Out of control
I'm spinning out of control
Out of control

Pick it, pack it,
Fire it up, Come along,
And take a hit from the bong,
Put the blunt down just for a second,
Don't get me wrong it's not a new method,
Inhale, Exhale,
Just got a ounce in the mail,
I like a blunt or a big fat cone,
But my double barrel bong is gettin' me stoned,
I'm skill it, There's water inside don't spill it,
It smells like **** on the carpet,
Still it, goes down smooth when I get a clean hit,
Of the skunky funky smelly green ****,
Sing my song, puff all night long,
As I take Hits from the bong...

Let's smoke that bowl, hit the bong,
And then take that finger off of that hole,
Plug it, unplug it,
Don't straaaain, I love you Mary Jane,
She never complains, when I hit Mary,
With that flame, I light up the cherry,
She's so good to me, when I pack a fresh bowl I clean the screen,
Don't get me stirred up the smoke, through the bub-bling water,
Is Makin' it pure so I got ta', take my hit and hold it,
Just like Chong, I hit the bowl and I reload it,
Get my four-footer and bring it on...

I'm not old, you're just 12.
I am currently enjoying the new System of a Down single and anxiously awaiting the new cd. Hardly subtle lyrics, but then, they never have been good at subtlety. Probably because the want to make sure that their songs are understood. (I.E. all the conservatives I know that love Rage Against the Machine cause they're loud and aggressive, without realizing they were Marxists....

System of a Down: "BYOB"

Why do they always send the poor?
My God is of Bible blood with pointed ears
Victorious, victorious steel
Can your spending kneel?
Marching forward hypocritic
And hypnotic computers
You depend on our protection
Yet you feed us lies from the tablecloth
La la la la la la la la la la
Everybody is going to the party
Have a real good time
Dancing in the desert
Blowing up the sunshine
Kneeling roses
Disappearing into Moses' dry mouth
Breaking into Fort Knox
Stealing our intentions
Every city, gripped in oil
Crying freedom!
Handed to obsoletion
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth
la la la la la la la la la la
Everybody is going to the party
Have a real good time
Dancing in the desert
Blowing up the sunshine
Everybody is going to the party
Have a real good time
Dancing in the desert
Blowing up the sunshine
Blast off, it's party time
And we all live in a fascist nation
Blast off, it's party time
And where the **** are you?
Where the **** are you?
Where the **** are you?
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Kneeling roses
Disappearing into Moses' dry mouth
Breaking into Fort Knox
Stealing our intentions
Every city, gripped in oil
Crying freedom!
Handed to a obsoletion
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth
la la la la la la la la la la
Everybody is going to the party
Have a real good time
Dancing in the desert
Blowing up the sunshine
Everybody is going to the party
Have a real good time
Dancing in the desert
Blowing up the sun
Where the **** are you?
Where the **** are you?
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?

They always send the poor!

I thought that was what it meant, but I wasn't sure. I'm swedish, remember...

I have to disagree though. Well, of course there's a certain amount of self pity in Morrissey's lyrics. But if you read them carefully as well as listen to how he sings them (especially live) along with what he's said about them in interviews and so, I think you would see the irony. I think I saw a documentary a few years ago where he said he was so surprised when reviews about The Smiths' songs started to appear in the beginning of their career. Critics were all talking about the dark depressed lyrics. Morrissey and his bandmates all thought the lyrics were great fun - which they often are - and didn't understand that people didn't see the humor in them.

But of course... With songs like "There is a Light That Never Goes Out" and "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me" it's hard to see Morrissey as anything but the cult figure for male intellectual-wannabees with a lonely soul and a broken heart... at least if you're circling around 30. Like me...

The Pogues cover that... Wow ı have have to fınd ıt, the orıgıonal ıs also great...
I haven't heard the original, but I read a quote by Bogle talking about why and when he wrote the song.

The Pogues cover is great. Shane does great justice to the lyrics, which is slightly altered by him. In fact, I have to listen to it right now. And you should get "Rum Sodomy and the Lash". It is a fantastic album.

Speaking of song lyrics here are some that i wrote. Im gonna play the song at a local Arabica.

I started Falling up into the Atmosphere
An Umbrella Was in My Hand
And as I floated over the troubled world
There was beauty I could not comprehend
And my eyes were filled with cities, towns
Embedded in the streets
And there silhouettes against the night
Were oddities too me.

And I fell onto a Doorway
It was planted on the ground
Through the Doorway was a cavern
There was Silence all around
And I Dug until my eyes were gone
And everything was bright
Through the opposites of Black
There came an omniscient white

And My Hands were filled with currency
As I laid under the earth
And My Innocence returned to me
As it came to me at birth
And my personality swept away
Had given me new light
For The rosewood closed before me
And swept away the night

And the day came still
Rays flowing in
Out past my will
And Everything I knew was gone

And the Future that had past me by
Of Love and grievances
Had washed away the shorelines
Of places I have been
And the spectacle of loneliness
Was at its highest peek
And the world crumbled around me
And created me a weak Character….

And I emerged from
My Deadly Grave
White roses strung
Around my feet and legs…

Smile Like You Mean It

"Smile Like You Mean It"

Save some face, you know you've only got one
Change your ways while you're young
Boy, one day you'll be a man
Oh girl, he'll help you understand
Smile like you mean it
Smile like you mean it

Looking back at sunsets on the Eastside
We lost track of the time
Dreams aren't what they used to be
Some things slide by so carelessly

Smile like you mean it
Smile like you mean it

And someone is calling my name
From the back of the restaurant
And someone is playing a game
In the house that I grew up in
And someone will drive her around
Down the same streets that I did
On the same streets that I did

Smile like you mean it
Smile like you mean it
Smile like you mean it
Smile like you mean it

Oh no, oh no no no
Oh no, oh no no no
