Blue Velvet (1983)

This is my first time seeing a David Lynch film. I had heard in the past that he's a very surreal director, and I definitely got that impression from this movie. Though I don't typically enjoy movies of this nature, there are a few exceptions. Some of my major problems with the movie were how some of the characters just saying weird things. Lynch reminds me of Ridley Scott in the sense that they are "style over substance." Some of the dialog just seemed weird to me. Other than that I didn't hate this film. To be honest I wasn't in a good mood when I watched this. I might have a completely different opinion the next time I see it. I did like the use of lighting and colors in certain spots, and overall the story was genuinely intriguing. That ****ing earring was SOOOOO distracting though.

For now I'll give it a (6/10)

The writing is great but there is just too much here I didn't enjoy. Cinematography and score being the biggest offenders.

Dead Ringers
(David Cronenberg, 1988)

Cronenberg's films often feel cold and clinical and emotionally repressed. Sometimes that approach can stiff arm my enjoyment. Less so here. Jeremy Irons is superb in dual roles. I thought it would be difficult to tell the identical twins apart, but after a few minutes into the movie their unique personalities are revealed. Irons infuses both characters with subtle differences: a slight change in posture, a more confident vocal tone, an inability to maintain eye contact, a nervous tic here, a nervous tic there. Dead Ringers features the usual Cronenberg eroticism, but it's never sexy. Nor should it be. These are characters who make a living sitting between the legs of women in stirrups. They view sex as a scientific study, something to be probed with medical tools, not passion. The primary themes of the film can be found in numerous horror entries involving identical twins or Siamese twins -- and which is summed up aptly by the tagline: "Two bodies. Two minds. One soul."

It doesn't take long before things get eerie and weird, although the film is surprisingly light on body horror -- the nightmarish sequence in the screenshot above being one of the few examples. This is more of a psychological thriller. My complaints lie in the second half of the film. The downward spiral comes on too sudden. Instead of a gradual decline, characters leap off a cliff. Some nuance would've given the film more emotional weight and complexity. I was also disappointed that Genevieve Bujold's character, despite playing an integral role in the plot, essentially disappears for the entire second half of the film. Cronenberg's films are always interesting, but for me he strikes out just as often as he hits. I'm pleased to report that Dead Ringers is one of his better efforts.

Sorry if I'm rude but I'm right
Dont find anything about it appealing..
There is a mincer scene, but the movie is not violent enough for you!
I guess the 4 or 5 of you havent learned... most of the time Im a serious person.. unless its me trying to make the joke.. then only certain ones of you find them funny....
That's why when she says she just killed somebody, it's true.

Master of My Domain
Inside Out (2015)

I haven't laughed this hard in a theater in years, and it's the first time I walked out of a theater crying continuously starting from the last few minutes of the film, barely ending my sniffling when I started the bus ride home.

Loved it, my favorite of the year by a long shot so far. My boys wanted to take their grammie, so I have seen it twice already. Where do you put it in the Pixar filmography Gatsby?

I'm not completely sure yet but:

1. Wall-E
2. Toy Story
3. The Incredibles
4. Inside Out
5. Ratatouille

The rest I'm too lazy to rank.

My God. It's not even as good as The Incredibles? I'll be sure to stay well away then.

That one has my vote for the worst Bond MM. Pretty sure its one that HK likes
Indeed HK does. It's not The Spy Who Loved Me or The Man With The Golden Gun, but it's Moore, so it's better than the vast majority of Bond films.
Camo has great taste, we forgive him for his ignorance here. I figure he probably has been watching No Country with HK.
Yeah, that didn't happen. I'm still only 40 minutes or so into that film and I started watching it about 7 years ago.

... it isn't a Coen film unless Joel directs it.
Quoted for truth.

If I want henchmen... I will go watch Guy Richie film.. far better
Does not compute. "Go watch a Guy Richie film"? Why would anyone do that? You mean voluntarily? Is Drew Barrymore in it? I mean, I just can't put this thing together.

I have a soft spot for Golden Gun. I love that film, despite of its reputation. I think it's awesome.

How can anything think badly of The Man With The Golden Gun? What do they want? From Russia With Love? Probably, yes. Which is one of the reasons that Bond is so poor most of the time.

Sorry if I'm rude but I'm right
Quantum of Solace is the weakest Bond for me. Every other installment may vary from decent to very good.

I don't know if I like Bond enough to ever watch them all. I think they are okay though and go see the new ones. Goldeneye and Casino Royale are by far my favorites. I have only seen two or three of the ones before Brosnan.

the screwball enigma that is honeykid

Hk likes Roger Moore Bond films best. Well that makes sense, Moore's the campy fun Bond. Wait tho ! hk doesn't like Big Trouble in Little China, John Carpenter's whacky chinatown adventure where Kurt Russell & Kim Cattrall chase down chinese ghosts!

But wait ! hk loves Charlie's Angels. Duh! That's like his favorite film with Drew Barrymore! Get with it! But wait ! Honeykid doesn't like that over-the-top kabuki turn by Jack Nicholson in that flick by the director who shall not be named OR classic Indiana Jones b-movie serial adventures by that guy who made Jaws which is honeykid's favorite movie ever oh honeykid
