Thoughts on short films ?

Tools

Sorry if this has been covered before but I wanted to get an idea of what people think about short films.

Do you ever watch them? If so, where, how? In this current age of bitesize consumerism is it not strange that there is no go-to or obvious platform for audiences to more easily access short films?

Have you ever tried to make a short film? Be it on your iPhone with some friends or on a larger scale with proper equipment?

I'm currently crowdfunding to raise the last funds in order to make a short film and whilst this post is a semi-plug I also wanted to get people's thoughts on the subject as I'm truly baffled that short films are not more prominent. Do you remember when they used to show a couple of short films before feature films in the cinema (before the days of 30 mins of ads and trailers). They should bring that back!

I have a friend who makes short films. I give him feedback on them occasionally. I find that most short films aren't really monetized. YouTube and Vimeo have scores of them. Not to mention Ubu, which is invaluable for anybody interested in the avant garde: http://www.ubu.com/film/

Looks like it's already funded!
I know, brilliant! Thanks for having a look!

Yes they aren't monetised and I guess that's the point I'm making. Why not? If Netflix had a short film category, I'd easily spend a spare 15 minutes here and there watching shorts. I'm not saying they need to spend too much money acquiring short films. Trust me most short filmmakers would probably give their films away for free if they were getting that kind of exposure!
