I just watched the movie a while ago. Its a good movie. I'll give this an overall score of 8/10.
I don't really understand the ending. Was the earlier part of the film just a dream or some sort of a premonition, but I think its too complicated, because Gretchen and Donnie's mom was, I think, familiarizing each other as if they knew each other, even so, I don't remember Gretchen and Donnie's mom meeting earlier in the film (or maybe I just missed it?), and even if they did met, that means they were connected to his dream or if its a premonition, why did Donnie let himself killed, and why was he laughing?
Or maybe time travel? But how? Maybe by reading the book, but I really didn't gave my full comprehension. I was just reading it, without understanding, just to pass and let it fade. Were there hints or important messages that could explain the ending?
Or maybe he's just hallucinating, but that would defeat the movie's labeled genre.
Where did the airplane's engine came from in the last scene? So when her mother was on their way home, their plane crashed and I presumed that was the engine that fell from the first scene. Wait no, that doesnt add up, different timeline. So ... Maaaaybe theeere's a portal? That connects both timeline? Or maybe alternate universe? I'm beginning to sound stupid. Then where did the last scene's engine came from? And why was he laughing? Is he mocking me?
And what was Donnie's doctor going to say to Donnie's mom? Did the doctor presumed Donnie was planning to kill his family or someone? But that doesn't make any sense since they ended up discussing athiesm and agnosticism from their last session.
Lastly, is it just me, I felt like Drew Barrymore and the science teacher somehow knew something about Donnie's inside.
