Do you wanna party? Its party time!
The NOES series is the most consistent one of the Big 3, but I'm not sure people are ready for that conversation.

Found one I think qualifies that you might like, Tak.

Yeah, Strangler is a good one in this category. Put down a brief review here.

Victim of The Night
Yeah, many of my comfort horrors aren't comedies. It's more like Predator or Hellbound: Hellraiser 2, stuff I've seen so many times that even the more upsetting/gruesome parts are so familiar that they're borderline soothing.

Seen it and liked it! Can't find my review, though.
Ah, that's different. "Gentle", I mean you said it doesn't have to be something you could show a kid, but Comfort Horror and Gentle I would think of as two different things.
I'll get to that in another post then, the opens things up.

And yes, I know you've seen it, you're the one who recommended it to me and we had a whole discussion about it.

Victim of The Night
My Comfort Horror (at least the first few that came to mind) would probably be:

The Fog
Fright Night
Friday The 13th Part 2
Mark Of The Vampire
Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein
A Nightmare On Elm Street
The Rocky Horror Picture Show

I know I'm forgetting some big, obvious ones but I'll add them as they come to me.

So this past weekend I was invited to something called a "party". Yall ever hear of that? Anyhow, I think I successfully convinced at least two people to check out Beastmaster. So that's how my social life is going.

I wasn't the one that brought up Beastmaster, I hasten to add. It's not like I was ambushing people at the punch bowl like a Jehovah's Witness. "Have you heard about Beastmaster, sir?"

You went to a party?! I'm so proud of you gettin' out. I struggle to drag myself out there these days.
Do you have a moment to talk about The Beastmaster?
I'm not sure there's ever a bad time to talk about Beastmaster. My poor girlfriend had to listen to me go on about how much Coscarelli did with so little, including the amazing miniature/forced perspective city.

Yeah, an old buddy moved back to town after 20 years away so I guess I'm now a person that goes to "parties" and "concerts" or something.

There was another guy that gave us the rundown of pros and cons to the various Beastmaster sequels, so at least I wasn't the biggest nerd in the room.

Every time I watch A Wounded Fawn I like it more. It and Hunted are just singing to me right now. Common thread: dangerous-yet-mediocre men getting what's coming to them in rural/isolated settings with an overarching theme of mythology/folklore.

I've seen all but Mark of the Vampire. Rad list.

Hah, I saw Beastmaster two years ago? I know it was via Tubi, it's a solid flick, I thought the lead was bland. I went to an Xmas work party last month, I think that counts.

Yeah, as I mentioned, I caught a few minutes of A Wounded Fawn on ShudderTV and actually stopped it because I thought it looked good enough that it deserved its own full viewing. I'll probably do that in April.
And I gotta see this Hunted. I don't remember the last time you talked about a movie this much.

I think they're both in this sweet spot where they are funny but also have some gnarly parts. They are visually interesting. The main antagonists are creeps, but just pathetic enough that it's not too upsetting. And they are both outlandish enough that it doesn't feel like you're just being asked to "enjoy" watching someone be victimized/tormented.

2020 Belgian Hunted?

I liked that one quite a bit. Nobody here talks about it though, so I'm happy I'm not the only fan.

It's so fun! Just a bit of a shame it couldn't be full found footage, and used music. It also reminded me of the worst excesses of that shaky-cam style, I had not seen that in a long while.

The Menu was a good, very funny, bleak satire comedy movie. I was the only one in the theater to laugh at it, I figured out midway through what kind of movie I was seeing.
That's really interesting! I felt like the film tipped its hand in terms of the humor very quickly with lines like "Shut up and eat your rock" or the super-pretentious critic "It's very Thelusian . . . ".

I can't imagine a group of people trying to watch it straight-faced!

People thought it was a horror movie, straight up. Even I thought that, kind of, then I realized I was watching a satire.

If the Menu had been made in the 70s, it would've starred Vincent Price.

And I would've loved it.

It's still enjoyable but it doesn't quite thematically congeal.
