Hey!

I also rewatched The Wild Geese.

My viewing habits are eclectic.

Y'all are just jealous of my sweet setup.

Does the Dracula series of Hammer movies necessarily have to be watched in order? I really want to see Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires, which is the last in the series, but I haven't seen any of the other ones.

Heavens, no. All you need to know is that Cushing is Van Helsing.

Cool. The horror movies from Hammer, Amicus, AIP, etc. are a relatively recent discovery to me and what I've seen so far is so much fun. I feel like a kid in some kind of store.

Hot tip: despite the absence of C Lee, Brides of Dracula is the best of the Hammer series. Others will try to convince you it's Horror of Dracula but those people are mistaken.

WARNING: spoilers below
Prince of Darkness is the secret best Hammer Dracula film. Don't tell Cap'n.

Generally speaking, though, the quality descends after Dracula Has Risen From The Grave, which is the third in the series. Scars Of Dracula, for example, was pretty awful.

Cap is correct. As usual.

It is good, probably the best of the Lee films, but I'd give the nod to Brides.

I'll probably start with Horror since I'm a completionist like that, but good to know.
I hope I'm in for an 85-minute version of the Monica Bellucci scene from Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Andree Melly >> Monica Bellucci

Counter point to Captain Terror, yes.

Virtually every single Hammer Dracula film begins where the previous one ends, or at least has an explanation as to how Dracula is returning. It’s not a rigid continuity but like their Frankenstein films, they are designed to be watched in order and it is a better experience. They aren’t truly standalone.

This is true, but the question was "can I watch 7GV first?" and it's not like he's going to be completely lost if he does. Watching them in order is always preferable of course.

Counterpoint to my own point: SPOILERS
Couple of months ago I watched the entire series in sequence for the first time, and -SPOILER ALERT-

So maybe don't watch them all in one week is what I'm saying.

Like I said, he COULD watch 7GV first but I don’t think it’s preferable. While not as tightly linked as the Dracula titled entries, seeing Cushing first play Van Helsing there wouldn’t have quite the same impact as seeing him in Horror or Brides of Dracula first.

Also… Heh. Yup. There is a bit of a silly quality to that (along with Dracula being inconsistently effective, often poorly throwing things at the protagonist in the climax) but it also helps tether just how closely the franchise would influence slasher films. There are more than a few overlaps with the F13th franchise that endear me to both.
