Forrest Gump vs. The Truman Show.

After watching Forrest Gump, having not seen it in quite a long time, I liked it more than I did before, and it went from just good, to great.

It reminded me of The Truman Show for some reason at least in terms of tone. I would say that Forrest Gump is better for character development, especially two of the supporting characters, where as The Truman show has the better, more unique plot.

But what do you think?

I didn't mind forest gump but since I'm more of a carrey fan, I'd go with The Truman Show

The Truman Show

Do you know what a roller pigeon is, Barney? They climb high and fast, then roll over and fall just as fast toward the earth. There are shallow rollers and deep rollers. You can’t breed two deep rollers, or their young will roll all the way down, hit, and die. Officer Starling is a deep roller, Barney. We should hope one of her parents was not.

Both are classics. I prefer Gump, though.

But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!” ~ Rocky Balboa

The Truman Show is a better movie I think, way ahead of its time. Forrest Gump is just a bunch of baby boomer porn, people who have been stealing from their kids and grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren to fund their wasteful lifestyles for years and years.

But Tom Hanks and Gary Sinise are much easier to like than Jim Carey. So I'll call it a tie.

Welcome to the human race...
It probably helps that The Truman Show is critical of the kind of manufactured/idealised all-American experience that is the unironic backbone of Forrest Gump (which also purports to criticise various institutions by having its foolish hero consciously or unconsciously defy them but this is muddled due to how much he manages to succeed at life through the same process whereas The Truman Show manages to stick to its one point).

What's also interesting is how in the special features of The Truman Show, that the orignal script, before rewritten, was suppose to be a darker movie, with Truman getting hold of guns, and shooting and killing other characters to get off the show.

That would have been an interesting third act as well, had they decided to go in that direction.

Both are classics for me

Talk about a movie that will haunt ya; The Truman Show is a trip.

Truman all the way.

But what about Forrest Gump vs The Godfather?

Gump vs Truman is a tough one, but I think Gump edges out Truman by "a little".

They'll say "I don't care if he's a poet or cowboy, so long as he's a nice guy. But oh, I'm so attracted to that bad guy over there."
Understand this last part, and you'll get them all.

Both are phenomenal, but even though I'm more of a Forrest Gump person I gotta say the better movie is The Truman Show.

I'm pretty sure the amount of films I prefer to Forrest Gump numbers in the four-digits, so putting it up against The Godfather is no contest.

No contest. The Truman Show easily, every day of the week and twice on Sunday. It's not even close.

It's been noted in this thread already, Forest Gump is just baby boomer porn, while The Truman Show is entertaining, intellectually stimulating and still relevant to this day, not just in regards to reality programming, but with the continued rise in social media being used in an increadingly aggressive and exploitative way.

Although wouldn't be surprised if there is a cynical cashgrab done if there is a piush one day to make a Forest Gump sequel, with Hanks sitting on the porch talking to his grandson, recounting home he was on hand to stop the Reagan assassination attempt, gave running tips to Carl Lewis, being the brains behind new Coke that someone else then loses the recipe which then becomes a disaster, is in Berlin for the fall of the Wall, accidently makes a move that inspires the creation of the Macarina or twerking or something, is on a chat show with Kurt Cobain, on a tour of the White House happens to interupt Monica and Bill, stumbles onto the set of Titanic, is sight seeing in NY during 9/11 and of course lends a helping hand before being made out to be a national hero all over again by dubya Bush, makes a gazillion more dollars from the dot com boom, inspires Obama to run for office and then is wins Trump's celebrity apprentice, before grendpa Gump gently nodding off on the porch, passing away in his sleep as the feather floats away, all set to a soundtrack of 80s, 90's and 00's songs.

But what about Forrest Gump vs The Godfather?

This'll be the biggest slaughter since Star Wars 7 and Alvin and the Chipmunks were released on the same day.

Forrest Gump is sneaky tough, so I think he could easily take Truman, especially if he caught Truman hitting on Jenny.
