Tools

About time I post this:

10.) Eye in the Sky
9.) Rouge One: A Star Wars Story
8.) Arrival
7.) Nocturnal Animals
6.) DePalma
5.) The Nice Guys
4.) Hail, Caesar!
3.) Hell or High Water
2.) Silence
1.) Green Room

All in all, this year didn't blow me away too much. Still waiting for a year like 2007; God what a great year that was.

I cant believe nobody has the jungle book in their top 10. It was fantastic

I'm going to go against the thread here and simply post the tittles that I really wanted to own on Blu-ray from 2016:

10 Cloverfield Lane
Arrival
The Nice Guys
Nocturnal Animals
Rogue One

My 2015-2017 ish list
IMO
Captain america Winter soldier 9.5 - ties 2nd best comic movie days future past. Only dark knight and is better
Captain america Civil war 7
Zootopia 8
Kubo 10
La La Land 10
Sing street 8
Manchester 3 - overly long
Arrival 7.5
Nice guys 6
Neon demon 3 - pretentious, but nice visuals. A good fast forward watch
10 cloverfield lane 3 - well done, i don’t like low budget movies
Revenant 8 - very well done, but manipulative implying that it’s anything close to non-fiction
Hateful eight - 6.5
Fury road 10.5 - iconic, significant cultural impact, original and you can tell it was a passion project for the creators
The lobster - 3, similar to neon demon
Hunt ofr the wilderpeople 8 - original and unique
Rogue one - 7.5 bit disjointed. Was not surprised to find the movie was significantly edited in post because the original did not test well with Moms. I think they softened the war movie aspect and it made the the movie worse, but more widely appealing.
Froce awakens - 5.5 too safe too derivative
X-men apoc 6.5
DR Strange 5.5
Deadpool 7.5
Train to busan 8
Nocturnal animals 10
Hacksaw ridge 7
Batman vs superman 3
Moonlight 7 well done but too much a clone of won kar wai to score higher.
Star trek beyond 4.5 - fast in the furious in space does not belong with star trek.
Imperium 3.5
Spotlight 7.5 - great story, but too basic of a movie to score higher imo. Doesn’t show movie craft.
Iboy 5
Keanu 6

I've only seen 30 movies released in 2016. That's about a third of everything I have on my 2016 watchlist, and it's missing a considerable number of movies I'll probably love. Here's a top 5 instead:

Split
The Neon Demon
I, Olga Hepnarova
Tickled
Elle

You can't win an argument just by being right!
In no particular order because 1. I'm not good with numbers when it comes to movies and 2. I might change my mind on rewatch.

1. Lion
2. Secret Life of Pets
3. Nice Guys
4. 10 Cloverfield Lane
5. Captain Fantastic
6. Dr Strange
7. Deadpool
8. LaLaLand
9. Dont Breathe (with some issues)
10. Arrival (with some issues)

special mention for autopsy of Jane Doe

In the order I saw them my 10 from last year would be

1 The Revenant
2 Room
3 Deadpool
4 The Witch
5 Son Of Saul
6 Kubo & The Two Strings
7 The Girl With All The Gifts
8 Nocturnal Animals
9 Arrival
10 A United Kingdom

Here's mine... there's a couple of movies in my list that some may find questionable... but I do stand by my choices. I don't set out to do a 'top 10 perfect movies' when it comes to these lists. Its the movies that i really enjoyed, related and connect too and seen something in them that others may not have. Anyway... enjoy! Let me know what you thought.

“I was cured, all right!”
I rewatched The Neon Demon last week. Damn, that film was one of the bests of 2016! The first time I hated, the second time, I loved!!

What did you love about it, Uber? That's one I wanted to love but didnt, even on a rewatch. I didnt dislike it; I was just ambivalent.

The first time I was expecting a new crime/thriller like Drive or Only God Forgives.
The film is a great comedy about models and their futile journey through the beauty world! If you start to think about the details, you'll see that the absurd facts in the film is just like the real world of the models but told in an absurd way.

I get you. I just got to the end and felt empty, like the industry. I'll tweak my mindset and have another rewatch from your PoV. Mr Dani hasnt seen this yet.
Thanks, champ.
