One of the best trailers I've seen in a long time.

I had heard absolutely nothing about this until I read a little piece on it in Empire earlier on today. They had seen like a 15 minute reel of footage and they were absolutely raving about it like it could be something truly special. They were throwing around films like Life of Pi, The Apartment and It's a Wonderful Life in comparison; like it could be that good.

Women will be your undoing, Pépé
absolutely CAN NOT stand stiller, hate him, hate him, hmmm, nope definitely hate him. Have tried multiple times to merely tolerate and it cannot be done that i can't even watch the trailer.
He is, as said on Family Guy, a mutant child of talented comedians.

Honestly, I am really excited for this film, I loved the short-story when I read it, but I had mixed feelings about the movie because of Ben Stiller. However, I remember seeing it during The Wolverine, and getting a little stir crazy about it. Tapping on my friend's shoulders and whatnot, "That's Walter Mitty, **** YEAH!"

This is a film I've been excited about seeing for a long time and that trailer looks astonishing. Be very interesting to see Ben Stiller starring and directing outside of full on silly comedy for a change.

I am looking forward to this. This looks like Stiller's equivalent to Carey's Sunshine of a Spotless Mind. This off-key sci-fi fantasy could indeed be something special.

This looks pretty great. I like Ben Stiller as an actor, but it seems like he shines more when he is directing himself. Zoolander, Tropic Thunder, heck, even The Cable Guy...he's a talented comedy director. I wonder how he'll do with something a bit more grounded (but clearly not too grounded). Can't wait.

The trailer and concept are pretty interesting, but I was ticked off when a critic called it the next "Forrest Gump" in one of the commercials. We'll see if it's actually that good.

It won't be the next Forrest Gump because it will be it's own movie. I LOATHE when critics have to compare a film to another film, that's just lazy writing. If I wanna watch Forrest Gump again (kinda do), it's on Netflix. LOL.

I watched this one today.

Despite some bad reviews the movie has received (the movie has a 48% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), I really enjoyed The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Ben Stiller and Kristen Wiig were great in their roles as Mitty and the woman of his affection Cheryl. The supporting cast that includes Patton Oswalt, Sean Penn, Shirley Maclaine, and Kathryn Hahn were all funny and marvelous.

There are similar elements and themes from Forrest Gump, which this movie has been heavily compared to, but it follows an entirely different concept. In addition to that, this has got to be Ben Stiller's best work as director so far (the daydreaming, ocean, and mountain scenes are amazing).

Walter Mitty's journey is one worth taking

8/10

It seems to be getting average reviews across the board, nothing too bad but nothing brilliant. I still think it looks fantastic, so can't wait to see it.

exactly,I saw an ad today saying that it's the "new Forrest Gump".That's outrageous.

I went ahead and copy-and-pasted by review over the movie from another thread, simply because it's fitting for this thread:

If there was ever a short-story, or entertainment medium that so eloquently summarized a lot of my thoughts, fears, and worries, it'd be the Secret Life of Walter. I remember whenever I first read it in high-school, and honestly, there's a lot of books that don't mean anything to me that you read in school. I don't care about To Kill a Mocking Bird, I respect it, but I think Atticus is extremely likable, but I don't think it's one of the greatest stories out-there. The Great Gatsby is decent, Romeo & Juliet is one of the best tales ever thought of, in my opinion, but it was written by one of the most irritating authors in history. (Poetic brilliance is real easy to fake when doth thy sentence no ****ing sense make.)

And really, it isn't a matter of how well-written they are, or what they teach you, but the Secret Life of Walter Mitty meant a lot to me. A tale about a guy whose life may not have gone the way he wanted, but he still dreams and yearns for something more. It's sad and kind-of beautiful, but I really related. I'm the type of person who is extremely spacey, eccentric, and bizarre, I have had social-anxiety my entire life, and really, I feel like I've missed out on a lot of great things as a result. It pisses me off, but I always imagined different, imagined what would have happened if I would have done this or this, and I hope for something more.

That's why I love the short-story, and when I found out about the movie, I was excited. I saw it was Ben Stiller. Ehh, .... No, I'm still excited! Negative critic reviews? Still excited.

I saw it. I loved it.

You can dissect a movie until it means nothing, you can throw around witty terms like commercialism or phoniness, or you can talk about symbolism, foreshadowing, or other literary terms, but those people can also go **** themselves, because an opinion is only worth the individual. There are movies we like, movies we don't like, and there are different reasons for all of them. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty was cheesy, spectacular, over-the-top, and there's a lot of things that I would have done differently. However, it's what they did right which made me like the movie, the cinematography was absolutely amazing, it's seriously some of the finest visuals around, but Ben Stiller plays his character with a certain charm that I appreciated. An awkwardness that remains awkward through and through, even when the time comes to be something, it doesn't unravel like an uncanny transformation, because there is no transformation, he finds a way to live life. A lot of people mocked it for being motivational, which isn't even a bad thing. I liked it. It was funny, over-the-top, but had heart, which were some of the main-elements in the short-story, and was what I related to.

I agree with the first message. The trailer is one of the best that I have ever seen. When I watched it, I thought that the film could be really wonderful.

I watched the film some weeks ago and I must say that it was not bat, It was even good. The problem is that my expectations were very high, and then the film wasn't as good as I thought.

The plot is very interesting, a man who is trapped in his life, his job, the life of the city... and one day, he starts to discover another way of life, travelling, meeting other cultures, living experiences, etc. But I think that with this plot, could have been done much better film.

In the film, Walter Mitty spends too much time in the city, and when he travels, the things, that happen in the countries where he goes, are not so real as real life.

I believe in the philosophy of the film. I thing that we should value more things, like living other experiences, visiting countries, testing foods... but the reality is that it is not as easy as the show us in the film.

I have travelled and I have a question: Is Walter Mitty rich?, because travelling around the world, flights, food, etc are very expensive. I was in Iceland and Greeland and I know it.

No, he isn't rich. We actually see how much money he has as he's sitting at Papa John's, balancing his checkbook. I found myself wondering how the hell he managed to pay for it all too and had a little trouble suspending disbelief because of it.

And when I'm all alone I feel I don't wanna hide

This pretty much sounds it up impeccably. This is escapism of the highest order, telling a fairly customary story with heart, humour, and allure, never becoming too contrived in its sentimentality nor too immoderate with its implausibility. It is a conventional piece, but since when should conventionality equate with mediocrity? This is one of the few large Hollywood pieces that pretty much worked on all levels. Of course it is nothing particularly noteworthy, but it (mostly) exceeded my expectations. The picturesque photography being its main standout, followed by Stiller's apt presence behind and even on the camera. It had its fair share of problems, but it was thoroughly enjoyable, and even rather restrained at times - something I did not expect from this film.
