Spy Films Discussion

Tools

When you search the word 'spy' you get no returns, so apologies if there is already a thread on this. Basically got this idea from the James Bond thread, one of my favourite type of film is the 'spy film', so wanted to see who else loves them and what there favourites are.

Feel free to decide what falls under this category at your own discretion, some of my favourites, mainly consisting of Bond and Hitchcock:

Dr. No

From Russia With Love

Goldfinger

Casino Royale

Enter The Dragon

North by Northwest

The 39 Steps

Notorious

The Man Who Knew Too Much

The Lady Vanishes

The Conversation

The Bourne Identity

The Bourne Supremacy

The Bourne Ultimatum

Three Days of the Condor

I love a good thrilling spy film, especially ones where a character is on the run (North by Northwest might be my all time favourite). There are also assassin films you could perhaps put under the category: Le Samourai, Le Cercle Rouge and The Day of The Jackal, The Manchurian Candidate and Inglourious Basterds come to mind.

Love a good spy film. You like For Your Eyes Only? Perhaps my favourite Bond, and the most grounded, realistic spy film of the lot, I'd say.

It's been too long since I last saw it to include it as a favourite, but I pretty much enjoy all the 20th century Bond films. I'm in desperate need of rewatching a lot of them.

Honestly, I think CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER's success can be attributed to Marvel wisely shedding the superhero movie trappings and adopting something closer to what you'd find in a James Bond flick. To me, CAP 2 isn't a superhero movie at all; it's an international spy thriller that just so happens to have Captain America in it.
