Film4's "100 Must-See Films of the 21st Century" 2014

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
Goon is pretty damn good.
Yeah, last time I checked, Bogie didn't wear backwards caps.
Bogie would slap Ghetto Bogie, and when he's slapped, he'll take it and like it.

Les Miserables? :s
Hey, I love that movie.

I take that one over their most recent 301 though.
Man of Steel and The Hobbit made it onto an all time great list? All by themselves those two make the entire list suspect.

There are some interesting choices (and omissions), certainly. Personally I think it's a bit of a strange time to do a list of the century. Maybe in another ten years. At least then they could get a bit of perspective on some of these choices.

However, people turning their noses up at Mean Girls and Frozen... I can only assume you don't get the idea of a cult film as something that has endlessly rewatchable, quotable (or singable) appeal to a lot of people. I know quite a few people who love these two films. A lot. I don't see that these films should be bumped off the list to make way for a mediocre Scorsese or Tarantino or other insert-slick-violent-but-ultimately-shallow-and-uninvolving-man-flick-directed-by-big-name-director.

I think some of you are taking this a bit too seriously. Most lists you know what you're going to get, and there's few surprises, there's mainstream lists (IMDB), serious lists (Sight and Sound) and all sorts of others. This list seems like a decent mix of films people would recommend for those interested in films, a nice variety for everyone.

Though Yi Yi could never make it as high because Sexy go insane, I think it's got the feeling of a MoFo list

That's a good point actually. Just look at our Seventies list with The Spirit of the Beehive sitting next to Rocky II.

Mean Girls and Frozen are OK films, but that doesn't mean they should be on a top 100 MUST SEE list of the century so far.

They're definitely not 'must-see films' in my opinion.

'Must-see' isn't the same as 'best' though. It's like the 1001 movies to see before you die list, some films are worth seeing because they represent a particular movement, or style, or country, or group of people. Some are important for their influence on subsequent films, and some just for the cultural reference they provide rather than their intrinsic artistic merit.

Sure. I just don't think Mean Girls or Frozen fall in any of those categories. They're decent films in their own genres, but in no way are they "must see" material in any sense of what that means.
