What's your favorite Japanese movie?
That's too easy.

Right about now I'm giving serious thought to just bailing on Tokyo Story. Holy crap is this slow moving. And this is the second Ozu film I've tried to watch so I guess the glacier like pacing is his trademark. I also ended up bailing on Late Spring.

High and Low is easily my favorite. The mix of drama, mystery, and suspense really hits just the right notes for me, and it features many of my favorite Kurosawa go-to actors. I also think that the train sequence is really fabulous.
But there are so many really excellent Japanese films, and I've admittedly not even seen a ton of them.
My favorite that probably wouldn't land on anyone's top 25 would have to be Miike's Blade of the Immortal--the literal rivers of blood and the dark humor really click with me when I'm in a certain mood.

Ikiru has one of the best stories I've ever seen in a movie, as well as one of the best lead actors
