What are the best films from the first half of the decade?

Tools

I found it to be extremely unfunny (Except for the one scene where Gustav runs away from the police when they first come to the hotel wanting to arrest him, which was spoiled in the trailer.), hated the characters, pacing and the plot was just so jumpy. I didn't find it pleasant to sit through at all.

As of now it is the only Wes Anderson film I have seen. I more than likely will give him another chance with Rushmore in a few years.
I've only seen 2 Wes Anderson films (GBH and Moonrise Kingdom) and they both largely have the same style. You might not like any of his films if you hated Grand Budapest that much.

My Top 9 of 2010-2014:

1. Black Swan
2. The Wolf of Wall Street
3. Django Unchained
4. Birdman
5. Shutter Island
6. Gone Girl
7. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
8. Life of Pi
9. Drive

I still have loads I want to see but my top 10 would be something like this.

1.The Master - PTA
2.A Seperarion - Asghar Farhadi
3.Drive - Nicolas Winding Refn
4.The Wolf of Wall Street - Martin Scorcese
5.Animal Kingdom - David Michod
6.Moonrise Kingdom - Wes Anderson
7.Before Midnight - Richard Linklater
8.Toy Story 3 - Lee Unkrich
9.Exit Through The Gift Shop - Banksy
10.Shame - Steve Mcqueen

Lord High Filmquisitor
I have the same ambivalent feelings toward Wes Anderson as I do Alexander Payne. The only Anderson movie that I liked was Moonrise Kingdom, and that was only marginally so (I've additionally seen The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou). The only Payne movie that I liked was Nebraska (although this was pretty solidly liked), and I have additionally seen Sideways, The Descendants, About Schmidt and Election.

I have given the following 2010-2014 films a 9+, which I list in aphabetical order. Some (though not all) are in my top 100.

21 Jump Street
The Artist
The Avengers
Before Midnight
Black Swan
The Cabin in the Woods
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
The Conspirator
Contagion
Drive
Guardians of the Galaxy
The Hunger Games
Inception
Interstellar
Lincoln
Megamind
Oculus
Sinister
Skyfall
The Social Network
Winter's Bone
The World's End
X-Men: Days of Future Past
X-Men: First Class

GBH is the only Wes Anderson i've yet to watch so i can't comment on that, but you should definitely give him another shot before a few years. Alot like the Coens he was always hit and miss for me initially; for instance i despised The Royal Tenenbaums, but once i got used to his quirky style i was drawn towards watching all of his films and upon rewatch i really liked Tenenbaums. Maybe he's just not for you but you should at least try more than one of his films . Anyway this is how i'd rank them:

1.Fantastic Mr.Fox
2.Rushmore
3.Moonrise Kingdom
4.Bottle Rocket
5.The Royal Tenenbaums
6.The Darjeeling Limited
7.The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou

These are the films I've given 5 or 4.5 stars in alphabetical order:

12 Years a Slave (McQueen)
Amour (Haneke)
Animal Kingdom (Michod)
The Artist (Hazanavicius)
Beasts of the Southern Wild (Zeitlan)
Before Midnight (Linklater)

Biutiful (Innaritu)
Black Swan (Aronofsky)

Boyhood (Linklater)
Cosmopolis (Cronenberg)

The Fighter (O'Russell)
Gone Girl (Fincher)

Magic Mike (Soderbergh)
Margin Call (Chandor)
The Master (P.T Anderson)
Melancholia (Von Triee)
Midnight in Paris (Allen)

Mud (Nichols)
Shame (McQueen)
Shutter Island (Scorsese)

The Wolf of Wall Street (Scorsese)

Decade (so far) feels like it's missing something, hopefully the future will redeem.

I am absolutely shocked that no one has mentioned The Dark Knight Rises yet.

I'm not at home or else I'd check my lists and maybe post a top 5 here.

In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

Yeah same here, half of the films on your list I haven't even seen yet.

Is The Social Network really that good? At first I refused to see it because I thought it was annoying that Facebook was taking over everything, and the last thing I wanted to do was see a movie about it. But if it's really as good as people say I might give it a shot.

I gotta give a shout out to The Raid and The Raid 2. Hands down two of the best action movies of the decade.
TSN is a very good movie, but because it's about the creation of Facebook it is a little bit underappreciated in general, i guess.

One thing that got me was in a trailer when it was in theaters. One critic said something like it was "This generation's Scarface." And I facepalmed bad. Comparing Facebook to Scarface is borderline cringe worthy. But like I said that was years ago and now I'm a lot less hostile about the whole thing lol.
