Nominations for Round 13 (last chance saloon) now open...

Draining couple of days for me recently so I'll listen to these tomorrow.

Round 13 nom:
Bogus Blimp - Automated Bathroom

A system of cells interlinked
1. Rush - Limelight - IMO, one of the best rock songs of all time. A masterpiece that is both progressive and completely accessible at the same time. The band flows from one time signature to the next so seamlessly, that unless you are paying attention, you don;t even know it's happening. This is Rush at their peak, with Lee grooving on bass, Lifeson filling the song with odd chords that just weren't used in rock at the time (and an absolutely beautiful, weeping guitar solo), and Peart delivering his usual excellent drumming along with lyrically perhaps the best meditation of life on-stage ever written. A towering achievement in progressive rock, as well as a quintessential Rush tune.

2. Ghost - Ritual - I'm a big Ghost fan, especially of their earlier stuff.

3. The Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet with Butterfly Wings - Top notch 90s anthem with perhaps some of the best lyrics Corgan ever wrote.

4. Talking Heads - Psycho Killer - Classic Talking Heads tune. They were at the top of their game here.

5. The Breeders - Cannonball - A less than classic 90s tune, but still dripping with the signature sound of the time.

6. Kin Palo - Twisted - I liked this one a lot! This is another great round of music so far...

7. P!nk - So What - Starting to fall off a bit for me at this point, however. Pink has a great voice, which locks her in here in the 7 slot.

8. Jeremy Jordan and Katharine McPhee - Rewrite This Story - Pretty bland, McPhee is a dime-a-dozen cookie cutter cutsie doodle.

9. Victoria+Jean - Holly - Did not like this.

10. Paul Cauthen - Cocaine Country Dancing - Liked this even less! I just can't do country music.

A bit weird, but quite wonderful.

Love me some Rush.

3.The Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet with Butterfly Wings
Great song.

4.Ghost - Ritual
Love Ghost and while this is a good song, it's not my favourite of theirs.

5.The Breeders - Cannonball
Ha! Haven't heard this one in years!!!

6.Kin Palo - Twisted
Not bad, not bad!

9.P!nk - So What

10.Jeremy Jordan and Katharine McPhee - Rewrite This Story

I'll post a nom later or when I wake up in the morning, if the round isn't already up by then.

Round 12

1. Paul Cauthen - Cocaine Country Dancing
(I've not yet listened to anything else from this dude, so I don't know if this song is indicative of his usual sound or not. There's clearly a tongue-in-cheek element to his approach here, yet that doesn't stop him from grooving the hell out and delivering a great, unique country song. The second half of this song gets funky as hell, making this one of the very few country songs that wouldn't sound out of place in a dance club. His voice also has a modern Waylon Jennings sound to it. Very curious to hear what @jiraffejustin thinks of this one.)

2. Ghost - Ritual
(No other band makes Satanism sound like so much fun!)

3. Victoria+Jean - Holly
(I could easily see this being grating if not in the right mindset, as it's sorta loopy and repetitive, but I enjoyed it quite a bit on this listen and will likely listen again.)

4. Rush - Limelight
(As I said before, I love everything about Rush except Geddy Lee's voice, which is a bit too on the nasally/wimpy side. For a 3-man band, their sound is always incredibly FULL.)

5. Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet with Butterfly Wings
(As a teen, I was a big Smashing Pumpkins fan, and this was one of my favorite songs, but for whatever reason my love for them and this song has faded drastically over the years.)

6 Kin Palo - Twisted
(Pretty cool, and since I'm already familiar with most of the songs in this round, it's refreshing to hear something new and different.)

7. The Breeders - Cannonball
(Didn't think I knew this song until it started playing, but it's instantly recognizable. Unfortunately, my nostalgia had already worn off before the song finished. I do miss this 90's alt-rock sound, though.)

8. Pink - So What
(I like Pink more than most of her contemporaries, and this song is fun and bouncy in that high-school party way, but as with most songs of this type, it's also extremely disposable.)

9. Talking Heads - Psycho Killer
(I know I'm in the minority, but this song has always annoyed me.)

10. Jeremy Jordan & Katharine McPhee - Rewrite This Story
(I think my ears just vomited.)

Sorry about that. I didn't think that you would get a notification if your name was in a quoted post. I thought the mentions only applied to the text that was in the actual reply part of the post.
