Is Cloud Atlas Good?

Avatar > Cloud Atlas (like a thousand times).

Oh HELL no. Not even close, man. How can a CGI Pocahontas remake be better than the wonderfully creative Cloud Atlas?

I enjoyed Avatar as a big, REALLY dumb popcorn flick, but it just isn't on the same level as Cloud Atlas except in effects, which Avatar clearly delivers in spades.

/facepalm

Avatar and Clous Atlas are so dissimilar they may as well be in different genres, i wouldn't even think to compare them. Like comparing Beef stew with oak trees.
(FYI I love Avatar and I liked CA).

Cloud Atlas is a great film in so many ways, it has an ambition so few films do these days, its thought provoking, beautifully made, great to look at and mostly brilliantly acted.

Its major problem is the Jim Broadbent nursing home subplot which is just weird and tacked on and the horrendously bad ethinc make-up they apply, which only serves to drag you kicking and screaming out of the film going "Why does Jim Sturgess look like that!?".

For all its flaws its a film that demands to be seen.
