300 getting prequel

Big Chico's Movie Blog
O.K. here is a movie that didn’t need a prequel “300”. Hero Complex had a chance to sit down with Frank Miller and talk about the prequel.
Hero Complex:
"Miller is preparing a follow-up now titled Xerxes, which begins about 10 years before the events of 300, and Snyder has expressed interest in it as a film property as well."

"It's the Battle of Marathon through my lens," Miller explained to Hero Complex. "I've finished the plot and I'm getting started on the artwork." The Battle of Marathon took place back in 490 BC during the first Persian invasion of Greece. It was fought between the citizens of Athens, aided by Plataea, and a Persian force commanded by Datis and Artaphernes. Source - First Showing

I’m always up for a good sword and sandals flick, but do we have to associate it with the 300. Why does Hollywood always put the title of a usually better movie in a title of a sequel or prequel to make us think the current turd there ushering out is going to be as good?

Why can’t they just title it Xerxes, and have no reference to the 300 in the story. Look if they’re going to bring back Gerard Butler, and I hope they do, then O.K. put 300 in the title, but if it’s a whole new cast then leave it alone.

I’m just tired of Hollywood making prequel after sequel after prepost version (I know that last one didn’t make sense, but it my rant so sue me) of a movie and the story not getting any better. I don’t think this last part had anything to with the article but it sure felt good!

Any who, Miller is making another movie based off the 300 THE END?

Unless G.B. is in it or they get someone of the same...talent, and there's as much gore as the first one, I'm not interested.

You guys ready to let the dogs out?
Hell, I enjoyed the first one a lot, it's the quintessential "lad" film, hopefully they have the same kind of action, music and excitement.

\m/ Fade To Black \m/
Really anything that Miller puts his name to I will watch and enjoy.

First Look At ‘300′ Prequel Comic Book

Revered graphic novelist Frank Miller (Sin City) spoke to the L.A. Times this week about Xerxes – the prequel to his comic book-turned-movie hit 300 and a project which director Zack Snyder is already interested in adapting into a movie.

Xerxes will be released in six parts next year by publisher Dark Horse Comics (Hellboy), and will focus on the history of its titular character (played by Rodrigo Santoro in the film 300), the leader of the Persian empire whose army clashed with King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and his Spartan warriors during the Battle of Thermopylae – the focus of Miller’s original 300 comic book and Snyder’s highly-stylized film adaptation.

According to Miller, Xerxes will dwarf 300 in terms of sheer epic scale – or, as he put it:

“This is a more complex story. The story is so much larger. The Spartans in ‘300′ were being enclosed by the page as the world got smaller. This story has truly vast subjects. The Athenian naval fleet, for instance, is a massive artistic undertaking and it [sic] dwarfed by the Persian fleet, which is also shown in this story. The story has elements of espionage, too, and it’s a sweeping tale with gods and warriors.”
Miller went on later to describe Xerxes himself as “a megalomaniac [who] takes everything as a sign of his godhood.” As you’ll see in the image from the Xerxes comic book below, the character’s god complex very much manifests itself in his extravagant, gold accessory-laced appearance and grandiose demeanor – at least in Miller’s tale, that is.

For more information from Miller about the 300 prequel comic book, the acclaimed graphic novelist’s feelings about working in the film medium again, and the political controversy that broke out following the release of the movie 300, you should read the entire L.A. Times article yourself.

The biggest concern for moviegoers at this point is whether or not 300 director Zack Snyder is interested in adapting Xerxes for the big screen. If so, it would be the third time the filmmaker has tackled the comic book genre and the first time since last year’s semi-hit, Watchmen.

Snyder and 300 producer Thomas Tull have reportedly been given access to some completed pages from Miller’s Xerxes, with the early consensus being positive. As Snyder himself – who is currently at work on his own original project, Sucker Punch – simply put it:

“If the book is awesome and compelling then yes, we’re interested.”

300 was undeniably a box office hit back in 2007 when it grossed over $456 million worldwide. While critics were mixed in their reaction, fans generally adored the film’s glorification of violence, its stunning visual effects, and the unabashed over-the-top nature of the movie, from the production design to Butler’s now-legendary hammy performance as the constantly yelling Leonidas. The notion that the prequel will be brought to the big screen – probably in 3D – with or without Snyder’s involvement seems pretty likely for now.

~Loves a good classic movie~
I think he should just leave it alone. 300 will become a classic and
a prequel will just lesson the uniqueness of it.

Looks like it is going to be a sequel not a prequel, sorry people.

Joel Edgerton In Talks for "300" Sequel

November 2nd 2011

Aussie actor Joel Edgerton ("Warrior," "The Thing") is in talks to star in the Noam Murro-directed sequel "300: Battle of Artemisia" for Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures says Vulture.
If he signs, Edgerton would play the famed archon and general Themosticles. At the same time as King Leonidas led the Allied army to Thermopylae, Themistocles took command of the Athenian contingent of the Allied fleet - beginning a series of naval engagements at Artemisia and holding their own against the much larger Persian fleet.
Later on, the tide turned with the Greeks achieving victory against the invading Persians. Zack Snyder is co-writing the script based on Frank Miller's upcoming graphic-novel sequel.
