I don't know if this term is only used in the UK, but every one I've seen has been good. I love "Loneliness of a Long-Distance Runner" and many more. Bryan Forbes is a fine director from the handful of movies I've seen of his. I love Ken Loach and Mike Leigh the best when it comes to British directors, but I love neo-realism, social-realism, kitchen-sink, etc.

What are your favorites?

Look Back in Anger was one of the first plays (John Osborne) in this genre. Later made into a very good movie of the same name.

This Sporting Life with Richard Harris & Rachel Roberts also very good.

Saturday Night & Sunday Morning with Albert Finney also springs to mind.

There’s a lot of them.

You mean movies that throw in everything but the kitchen sink, as the expression goes?

Saturday Night and Sunday Morning for me.

Yes, all good. (Loved Terence Stamp in PC.)

Did you like Cathy Come Home? Re-watched it recently. Still v. powerful.

Yep Cathy Come Home is very good and still very relevant. Through work, I deal with homelessness a fair bit, although mostly through colleagues these days, so it hit home pretty hard.

And of course homelessness is a massive problem in America.
