2001: A Space Odyssey

(I'm "watching" it right now).. I've even fast-forwarded the non-dialogue, and even the dialogue is confusing. I don't care about inside-talk about space apparatus and never cared about space.

Welcome to the human race...
And you want to condescend to the rest of us about old movies.

(Don't have an answer since I'm pretty good about finishing the movies I start)

Many. There's a lot of bad porn out there.

Look, I'm not judging you - after all, I'm posting here myself, but maybe, just maybe, if you spent less time here and more time watching films, maybe, and I stress, maybe your taste would be of some value. Just a thought, ya know.

Citizen Kane. I only finished it - finally - because @Citizen Rules spoke so highly of it.

Still hated it.

I tried watching Rio Bravo about a month ago. I always heard it was one of the best westerns ever made, that Howard Hawks made it because he hated High Noon.

Well, he should have learned more from High Noon, cause I thought Rio Bravo sucked. I made it through the whole movie, but barely.

I don't think it holds a candle to High Noon.

That's a tough one. If I feel strongly enough to leave something behind, that's a pretty clean break. I might give it one more shot, but if I don't like a film, there's too many other films I haven't seen to worry about the one I saw part of and didn't like.

Hated Citizen Kane, Seven Samurai, and Lawrence of Arabia?

Ummm... ok. What's a great movie to you?
If you’re taking this as a personal slight, I’m not adding more fuel to your fire.

If you’re not, let me know & I’ll give your question some thought.

You've got to be in the right mood for 2001.
I kind of hated it as a kid... but then my mind expanded.

I was in the mood after all the talk about Kubrick and his "messages".. I'd rather read the screenplay.

All three almost made my list... I turned off Brazil by the time De Niro showed up, never tried again... I almost turned off "La Dolce Vita" as a result of frustration, but by the end I liked it.

I tried a few times before "The Discreet...." and found it awful.. I'm not sure why. Perhaps when I was renting, I felt obligated to finish it. Now that I no longer do that, I seem to think "Oh, I can watch something else" but hardly ever do. Sometimes I wonder if too much choice makes it hard to decide, and also giving a movie a short leash.

Brazil is by far the toughest one of those three to get through but I should give them all a chance all the way through sometime.

Ditto on the Trial, also the recent Star is Born - just didn’t do it for me
