"Money won is twice as sweet as money earned."

Off the top of my head.......

1. Million dollar baby – Hilary Swank
2. Robert De Niro- Goodfellas, ( Honourable mention to his performances in) Raging Bull, Casino, Heat
3. Paul Newman-The verdict
4. Mel Gibson- Braveheart
5. Anthony Hopkins – Silence of the lambs
Honorable mentions: Ian McClellan LOTR, Joe Pesci – Casino, Christian Bale – American Psycho, Samuel L Jackson – The hateful eight and a controversial one. His performance was perfect for the role, Arnold Schwarzenegger- T2.

1. De Niro in Taxi Driver

I don't think anyone else has capture so perfectly the dread that comes with loneliness and the awful outcomes that come from allowing oneself to sink in.

2. Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood

Absolutely titanic. Acting that shakes you to the very core.

3. Harry Dean Stanton in Paris, Texas

Another performance that deals in solitude, except this one is about picking yourself up rather than giving in. Beautiful and heartbreaking with Stanton using his unique look to its advantage.

4. Oscar Isaac in Inside Llewyn Davis

I'm shocked he wasn't nominated for this. It's a star making performance in which he not only shows terrific musical talents but also turns one of the most unlikeable characters I've seen into an endearing and relatable one.

5. Waltz in Inglourious Basterds

Even QT agrees that this is his best character. Jules and The Bride are phenomenal but Waltz is magnetic, charming, hateful and a hoot to watch all within a few frames from each other. If it weren't for Day-Lewis he'd be THE villain of the 21st century.

While good i don't think Waltz is as good in IB as everyone else does. Other than that though great choices, those four are all excellent.

1. David Thewlis - Naked

2. Emily Watson - Breaking the Waves

3. Jessica Chastain - Take Shelter

4. Buster Keaton - Sherlock Jr.

5. Anna Karina - Vivre sa Vie

Jessica Chastain is so hottt
As good a reason to watch it as any.
I'll probably watch it this week-end. I will give you my feedback after watching it for sure bro

I forgot to include David Thewlis in mine, think he'd be my #2 or #3. Anna Karina in Vivre Sa Vie is a top three female performance for me. And you know how much Watsons character/performance and just the film in general kinda broke my brain . Think it has been long enough to watch it again and finally decide whether i love or hate it.

You better love it, or I'll slap your eyeball.

3: Lynda Steadman in Career Girls

Playing the same woman in her awkward college days and as a quite different person six years later. Out of all Mike Leigh's films I don't think this one gets talked about enough, or indeed at all .

4: Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight

Probably can sound like a cliché but he was so good and so memorable I had to put him in. I'm certain that if I hadn't known who was playing the Joker I wouldn't have recognized him.

1. Anthony Hopkins - The Silence of the Lambs
2. Russell Crowe - Gladiator
3. Marlon Brando - On the Waterfront
4. Kenneth Branagh - Henry V
5. Robin Williams - Good Will Hunting

5: Laurence Olivier in Clash of the Titans

I like this one the more I think about it, just because of how clever his idea was to deliver Zeus's lines to mimic a thunderstorm.

What I find interesting in retrospect is remembering Patrick Troughton in Jason and the Argonauts. When Phineas defies Zeus to make a deal with Jason there's the ominous rumble of thunder, and on the line "You grumble away all you like Zeus – I mean what I say" Troughton delivers it as a sarcastic, grumpy parody of the storm. It amuses me to think that Olivier probably saw the film and filed that away for future reference .

Choosing only one from each actor

2.Tom Hanks,Forrest Gump
3.Al Pacino,Serpico
4.Peter Finch,Network
5.Marlon Brando,The Godfather

I was pretty good in a middle school production of "Guys & Dolls". Thanks for asking!
