Isolation Horror, The King Kong Effect

Tools

REC is the first movie that comes to mind. Wasn't there a movie that was release recently, a few years ago, named like above/below something, would that qualify? I haven't seen it, coz i dont watch horror movies too much these days, as i get scared a lot!

Might be region code problems with other countries.

Just after a decent list of this theme, as it appears I like these kinds of horrors/thrillers judging from my past viewing experiences.

Any I've not seen, I can have a look at them... but it'd be nice to have a comprehensive list to mull over

Also, it'd be cool to have a list somewhere on MoFo, namely this thread, for other people to scan over as well.

You might wanna add Dead Birds to your list as well then.

Welcome to the human race...
Things like Night Of The Living Dead, Dawn Of The Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Cloverfield and Godzilla for instance don't fit the category.
They're broader ranged, wide spread "disasters" with heavy and constant influences from the outside, and the main character/s can for intents and purposes, just drive or run away, use a phone, whatever, to escape.
Upon further consideration, I think Texas Chain Saw Massacre counts (or at least doesn't fit the disqualifying criteria). The setting is self-contained (a farmhouse and the surrounding acreage), the threat of a single family of serial killers is not "widespread" in the same sense that zombies or giant monsters are, there's no influence from the outside up until the very last minute, and the main character's initial attempt to run away and use a phone does not work.

Why is it called The King Kong effect, when King Kong took place, all the way from an island in the South Pacific, to New York City? Not exactly a contained setting, is it?

It's something I picked up on watching Predator with John McTiernan's commentary.
He says that "Predator is basically King Kong... like a lot of films, they main cast go to a place that's remote to find something... only what they find is bigger than they expected and they have to run away."

Yeah got Event Horizon down.

Don't Breathe could be a good addition... wanted to check that out.
I've been wanting to see A Quiet Place as well. Looks like it could fit the criteria. No spoilers though please, I want to see that one spoiler free.
