Name The musician/singer

Looks like he needs a good feed eh Doc.
Drugs and drink will do that to ya... Our man is an English born, primarily blues band leader, active for over 50 years. His bands have featured many famous musicians, such as Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Jack Bruce, Mick Taylor, Mick Fleetwood, Sugarcane Harris, Harvey Mandel, and Aynsley Dunbar.

Yes, Doc; Eric Anderson it is, who wrote Violets of Dawn. And Thirsty Boots, Is it Really Love At All, and my own personal favorite, the slow and mesmerizing, nearly mystical: Blue River.

Good on you for getting this -tho he's a headliner in roots music, not well known beyond that sphere. I could probably name a folkie dokey or two that Judy Collins never heard of.

Here 's another of the handsome lad, wonder if you ever bumped into him in Pittsburg?
No, I left Pittsburgh initially in 1962, and presumably Andersen left before then. It was only later that I heard about him.

Despite popular acts such as the Kingston Trio, I was not (am not) a folk fan. In 1961 I travelled to Greenwich Village to experience their jazz scene, but folk music had already started taking over the Village clubs. I was disappointed to have to travel all over NYC just to find jazz clubs!

Yet, later on in my career I did do a week with Tim Buckley at the Troubadour in West Hollywood. In fact it was recorded for an album, Tim Buckley: Live at the Troubadour 1969. Tim had made his name as a folk singer, but his passion was in jazz. We had a lot of great rehearsals, and the shows were pretty damn good.

When I lived in NYC in 1967-68, folk music was going strong. Dylan, of course, along with Joan Baez and all that crew. We played shows with some of those acts, usually at festivals, but folk was just not my bag. Then of course it became associated with the Hippie movement, which to this day keeps me embarrassed to have been part of that generation.

We need more since nobody knows who this is.

Earlier: "Our man is an English born, primarily blues band leader, active for over 50 years. His bands have featured many famous musicians, such as Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Jack Bruce, Mick Taylor, Mick Fleetwood, Sugarcane Harris, Harvey Mandel, and Aynsley Dunbar"

The name of his band was the Bluesbreakers. He was born in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England in 1933, and he's still playing today at age 84.

He lived in Laurel Canyon, L.A. in the 1960s.

John Mayall

OPEN FLOOR since I have to go watch Jeopardy.
Excellent, Miss Stirchley! I had a feeling you'd get it.

In 1969, the road manager of the band I was in was a friend of Mayall's. So Mayall invited me up to a party at his house in Laurel Canyon (L.A.). Mayall was a fascinating and talented musician/singer, but he had other interests as well.

He was a video nut, and liked to record movies from TV and edit out the commercials. Then he'd invite people to his house where he'd show the movies, and everyone would party. Keep in mind this was before the internet, before cable, videocassettes and DVDs.

He had a large living room in which the east window was a large department store window he salvaged and turned it on it's end so that you had a 20' tall window through which to look at the stars. The walls and roof were built around it. He had a well stocked bar that he called "The Brain Damage Inn", which was displayed by a sign. He also had a world class porn collection: magazines, videos, etc.; and a bedroom equipped with a video camera.

Sadly, all that was lost when his home burned down from a fire in 1979.

He received an OBE in 2005, and still performs.

Son of an ubër-famous rock star. Both play the same instrument & the son plays with a very famous rock band replacing a band member who died back in the day.

That's Zak Starkey, son of the super star, Ringo Starr. Zak plays with the new incarnation of The Who, whose original drummer was Keith Moon. Nice one, Stirch.

L

Artie Shaw, who was known for doing one of my all time fave standards- Begin the Beguine

A class act like this could never go out of style

Probably an easy one, but - to my mind- a good one to follow our previous musician, and often, to follow in the tradition of the music. .

That's either a picture of a well fed Bette Midler, or one of a well fed daughter..

But the "Divine Miss M" was a helluva performer. And may still be. And look at Dolly and Loretta: still grinding it out!

Mea culpa, wise man Doc - it is Bette's daughter Sophie- pic was mislabeled on line but I did mean to post the absolutely Divine Ms M.

All great performers. And haven't ( yet) seen them - but love them all.

Can't get anybody by you, LL! You're up...

I' m flattered Doc.

This is one of my favorite singers , in any genre. A few years ago ( early 00's I think) I went to see the rather renowned Marianne Faithful in a high end intimate club. I and friend sat not more than 15 feet from stage. Marianne was headliner ; but this lady came out first and sang to me- and my soul- Many Rivers to Cross. I still get goosebumps.
