2022 Mofo Fantasy Football Champ
Incendies

I wasn't quite as enthralled with this the second time around but it's still a very brilliantly made movie. The film is shot really well and there are a lot of well done scenes. The scene with the burning bus just breaks me. Sometimes the narration takes me out of the film however. The film looks magnificent and the acting is pretty solid all around. It's a good film, but it isn't my favorite of his.

Incendies

Sometimes I feel a bit alone among the film community in really enjoying a lot of these big sprawling movies with multiple threads and timelines. I’m not entirely sure what it is. I believe it’s because they play out like mysteries as they drag you through the story. Often I feel a little lost till everything begins to pull together towards the final act.

Incendies certainly hits me in the sweet spot of these types of films. I don’t know if it’s on purpose, or just happens to a pale face like me, but the two younger actresses are similar enough that it took me a couple back and forths to even remember which time period I was in. So the story device works on me obviously. But I also find the plot very intriguing, and ultimately, devastating.

The look of the film is fantastic. Feels very real and sweaty. The performances are strong across the board. Glad this one was picked. It was a movie that had mostly left my mind, and may just be my favorite of his.

Still love this the world, and I am excited to see what comes next . I much prefer the first to this one though. I am always just the guy who enjoys the origin story. I like getting to know the characters and the world. Once we are immersed I am much less interested in the plot points.

I am going to be interested to see how these movies hold up visually in 15 years. I really think this is where Villenueve shines in directing these IP movies. In a world of garish visuals I feel he stands out as creating good looking other worlds that will stand the test of time.
