Arnold VS Stallone

Tools

Even both are fading, who was and still is the bigger action star? Who has made the better movies?

My vote is with Arnold, even though Stallone has had some good ones, Rocky and Demolition Man, Arnold has made overall the better action films. You can't beat T2 and Predator, plus he has all those cult classics like Running Man and Commando. Stallone might be a better actor, but he's not the action king.

In Soviet America, you sue MPAA!
I think Arnold is deffinetely better. The only Stallone movie I like, and I haven't seen any Ramboo's, was Demoltion Man, and that was mainly because it had Snipes in it.

Everyone has seen an Arnold movie, and everyone loves his movies, no matter how cheesy they are.

What about the Rocky films? The first Rocky and the one with the Russian dude, those are both good films. I'm with you on the Rambos, I've only seen bits and parts of those.

Gees, how can you judge Stallone without watching any of the Rambo movies? Those were the highlight of his career (well the first one anyway). I'd pit Rambo: First Blood against Predator any day! The second and third parts were a bit overdone, but nothing more than the Arnie movies anyway. The Rocky movies were good, especially the first one and the fourth (with Ivan Drago)

I can't really decide which is better, I enjoy both of their movies (though I find Arnie to be very crap as of recently)

Arnie v Stallone.

I always hoped I'd never have to make this choice...

Stallone peaked early. Rocky I and II were awesome films, as was Rambo: First Blood. Since then, only Cliffhanger really stands out as an excellent film, although by all account CopLand is very good (I haven't seen it).

Arnie's first couple of films... weren't great, but he peaked a little after Stallone in the mid-late 80s, with Predator, Commando, Red Heat, Raw Deal, Running Man etc. In the 90s, both of them have made bad, bad films (Stop, or my Mom Will Shoot!!!!! Junior!!!!!!!!!!).

So to compare them is difficult, and for any connossieur or combat / action films, very unfair. Rambo's early films were probably a little deeper (just a little!) but Arnie's films, well, saw more people die. Which is always a good thing in films.

Ollie, you're a Rambo fan I gather Let's see, have you ever tried counting how many people he kills in a movie? What the ratio of dead people:Rambo's wounds is? I tried counting for Stallone in Rambo III, and my estimate (though I quickly lost count!) is something like 175:1, but something tells me it's a bit more than that!

I'm not really too fussed about 2 and 3 - but in the first one he could have done a lot more killin'.

As he says,

"I could have killed all of them. I could have killed you. In town you're the law. Out here it's me. Don't push it. Don't push it or I'll give you a war you'll never believe. Let it go. Let it go..."

It annoys me that the first one had a lot to say about how the vets were treated, but after that they just used the name as a vehicle for just above-average action films.

You know that Rambo was based on a real person, Colonel (I think) Gritz, the most decorated war hero in Vietnam. It's also based on a book (which one day I will find and read!).

Mine is Sylvester Stallone. I've enjoyed work from the both of them. Here are some favorites . . .

Sylvester Stallone:
Rocky (1976)
F.I.S.T (1978)
Nighthawks (1981)
Victory (1981)
First Blood (1982)
Cop Land (1997)

Arnold Schwarzenegger:
The Terminator (1984)
Predator (1987)
The Running Man (1987)
Total Recall (1990)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
True Lies (1994)

Why did I choose him? I'm judging the actor, not the movies, and I can't see Arnold Schwarzenegger pulling off what Sylvester Stallone did in Copland.

Arnold is definitly a more charismatic actor but Stallone has made better movies. Rocky won Best Motion Picture 1976. Arnold I dont even think has ever been nominated by the Academy ever. Although he was nominated as California Governor? If it came down to a fight in 1982- Arnold, 2009- Stallone

Stallone is the better actor, but Arnuld's overall body of work is slightly better in some respects. On the other hand, Stallone does get the edge considering that he has won an Oscar, something Arnuld does not have. In the end I like Arnuld better, but Stallone has that Oscar statue to still hang on to. Arnuld's pretty much done career wise at this point, where as Stallone is rumored to be coming out with another Rambo and is doing a star studded action film.

The difference in them pictures is that Stallone is still using steroids and Arnold has not for years. Sly got caught with them last year in Australia.

AS for best i would have to say Arnold. I love his cheesy movies like Kindergarten cop and Twins. T2 is also one of the best movie's.

I think in the acting department Sly does take it but in terms of making better film arnie has the upper hand. I also think sly made more bad to worst films than arnie has. Sometimes it felt as if they were in direct competition with one another. When other times they were as far as you can get while still being in the same genre. While I wouldn’t say Arnie has made any oscar worthy performances. Sly has not one but three films Cop Land (1997), First Blood (1982), Rocky (1976) that are what people call Oscar worthy. Last Action Hero and Demolition Man are very good contrasting films in context and in trying to evolve the genre to new lengths. I've always like the way Arnie has been able to make fun of himself were as I get the sense of feeling Sly thinks he's to good for it.

I prefer Stallone as an actor and action star over Arnold.

Stallone invested not only his acting chops, but his writing, producing, and directing to his films. For that reason, I think Sly is the more talented and bigger action/movie star.

Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

I love them both. But if I had to pick, I would have to go with Stallone, because not only did he act and direct, but he also wrote a lot of his movies including the original Rocky. Not only that, but Stallone is still making movies, whereas Arnold is finished, at least for now.
