Can Francis' Bacon be Saved? Or What is the Meaning of your User Name?

Tools

I always ask this question (I mean the username part) wherever I go. I am going to write a magnum opie about the topic someday. What is the meaning of your user name? Mine comes from the C.S. Lewis book, THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS. Pigsnie is a term of affection between 2 minions of Satan. Otherwise, i would have picked my other favorite, ButtCrack2000.

!

Hey - I've got that book right here near me - bought my own paperback copy just a couple weeks ago. Read it when I was like 12 (roughly), but didn't follow too much of it, so I'd better read it again.

i have absolutely no idea where my name came from, i was tryin to think of a new internet pseudonym (sp?) and electrosphere was the first one that popped into my head.

THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS are a tough slog for kids these days. I'm suprised you even wanted to read it at 12, Commish. (I read it meself at around the same age.) But when I assigned this book years ago (I was briefly a Form Master at a boarding school), wails of protest rose from the class. Half the kids didn't want to read anything remotely theological and the other half thought the book was about two tapeworms.

Hmmm, deep in your heart, ElectroSphere, I think you must know where your name comes from. (See, ChEeRs knows.) There's a reason for everything, like why the s**t I bought a Hawaiian shirt.

well ig uess it could cpom,e from one of those plasma sphere thingys, but when i thought of it, it just popped into my head out of nowhere, and i thought it sounded cool.

Well, I only half-wanted to. My dad gave it to me, and let's face it: it's an intruiging concept, even to a 12 year old. What's not intruiging to a 12 year old, however, is actually reading the book. I think I'll appreciate it much more now.

I'd spent a lot of time on business, leadership, and management up until these last few months, but I've taken a more literary turn, reading things like LOTR, Pilgrim's Progress, and soon, The Screwtape Letters, as well as some other Lewis books. It's a bit more relaxing, (albeit it not as practical as business, leadership, and management) actually.

Recommend Sun Tzu's the Art of War if you are into business, leadership and management. He wrote about warfare but everything is easily applied to the language of business. (I wonder if thats ever been made into a movie?)

Anyway, Pigsnie guessed what my name was about. I named myself after the young King Arthur in one of my fave books. It was either that or Razor Boomslang but I'd already registered so it was too late. Boo Hoo. :bawl:

I've heard of that - it looked a tad on the boring side, however - I may be reading Lord of the Rings, but that doesn't mean the Council of Elrond didn't test my endurance.

Female assassin extraordinaire.
dude, i explained all this in the Badger thread ... and i am too d@mned lazy to type it again! or to go copy/paste it. heheh.

The absolute worst part of the 1980s was listening to all the Wall Street types and Wall Street Wannabes quoting crap from Sun Tzu (even the movie Wall Street had quotes from the book). The Art of War was one of only three books most of these jokers had ever read (the other two being "Iococca" and "Trump: The Art of the Deal").

Wow Wart, you took the words right out of my mouth!! As I was reading TWT's post, Sun Tzu just popped into my mind and I thought I'd reccomend reading that to him! Yep, definitely read that book if you're into leadership, management and all that stuff, along with Machiavelli's "The Prince" (Hitler based a lot of his strategies on that one, and while I don't agree with any of his beliefs, he still was a pretty good strategist!!)

Zephyrus means West Wind - one of the four winds in Greek mythology, and the only one out of the four who is kind and benevolent. The other three are all very destructive It very much fits my character

ZEP, THE ART OF WAR would probably read better if there were pictures. I had to read it in college and it was tough going until my own TA lent me a SUN TZU comic book.

I'm playing this strategy war game called SHOGUN and the developers actually used the principles in Sun Tzu to create the game.

OK--Chris, to learn about management & business, its best to read about other people's experiences: STARTUP by Kaplan, books by PO BRONSON (My favorite is THE FIRST 20 MILLION IS ALWAYS THE HARDEST) and to read about what its like to be in business school--read YEAR ONE by Robert Reed. This guy talks about his 1st year at Harvard Business School. Fascinating stuff.

There's a play by Arthur Miller called The Man Who Had All The Luck, and I love plays and this title. But I'm female so I changed it

Welcome to the human race...
Technically, the meaning of my name is a French bastardization of the Algonquin tribe's term for "rattlesnake".

However, where I first got it from was the videogame Metal Gear Solid 2. When Solid Snake meets Raiden for the first time, he is disguised as a NAVY Seal and calls himself Iroquois Pliskin.

I got mine from one of my favorite songs by a local band Mushroomhead. The music is so amazing, it really touched my soul something fierce. Plus I have a dirty job so it's kind of suiting.
