Unusual Movie ideas

Tools

Some of my ideas would be movie shorts, or parts of a movie.

1.
Two couples, one of them is being invited to the apartment of the other couple. The action will take place with the first couple arriving and greeted at the door, ushered in, sitting down, chatting, waiting for dinner to be served, etc. Where it gets unusual is that the first couple will be directed to actually get drunk immediately prior to action, to the point of almost being unable to function, right on the verge. The actors will have to know what their limit is and perhaps experiment during rehearsals. The other couple will be directed to remain sober. The actually drunk couple will be the ones hosting the dinner party. In addition to being directed to get drunk, they are directed to act as though they are sober. The other couple, the guests arriving for the dinner party, who are directed to remain sober, are also directed to act like they are drunk -- not only drunk on arrival but increasingly drunk as the socializing unfolds. The host couple, who are actually drunk but acting sober, will also be directed to behave in a judgmental way, critical of the inebriation of the other couple.

2,
A family set in Victorian England, or it could be 19th century America, 1890s. And perhaps it's winter time, and the scene opens with the family arriving by carriage to their home which is sort of like an apartment in the city, a large apartment accommodating a mother, father, three children, two of them being in their late teens. Everything is directed to be authentically 19th century, except for one detail, and that is that when the family goes into the apartment and they put their coats up and the father says he's going to get the fire going and maybe they have a servant bringing them tea etc. -- the eldest daughter goes over to a cylinder desk, pulls back the cover and there is a laptop computer on which she starts working, perhaps checking her email or something. The point of it would not be to try to explain it or have anybody take notice of it as strange -- it will be directed as though it's perfectly natural and normal and nobody bats an eyelash, and everyone proceeds to behave in their 19th century way otherwise all around the daughter.

3.
A group of people gather together, could be any circumstance, could be indoors at a dinner party, could be at a restaurant or a bar, could be outdoors at a cafe or in the park. There's about five or six people and they are directed to initially chit chat in a normal way, just spontaneous improvisation. Then increasingly they are to start uttering nonsense -- not just nonsense of sentences that don't make sense, but also nonsense words that don't exist, and nonsense syllables. This phenomenon will be increasing, yet intermixed with normal speech slowly being overtaken by the gibberish. The acting will be mostly directed to be normal -- the actors are supposed to behave as though nothing strange is going on while they're doing this, though perhaps one of them or two of them could also behave in a weird manner, with intermittent spasms or tics.

4.
This may be the weirdest of them all. Find a sidewalk on a street that's not busy, where the street is on a fairly steep hill and fairly long perhaps four blocks long with no intersecting streets. Perhaps one or two cars will be passing but that's all. There will be two actors, let's call them Peter and George. Peter is directed to stand at the top of the hill on the sidewalk facing backwards, and he's directed to slowly walk backwards down the hill on the sidewalk. Essentially he's going to be walking backwards on the sidewalk down a steep hill and the sidewalk is not curved it's fairly straight, it's just that it goes downhill. So that's Peter, again, walking backwards down the hill on the sidewalk. George is directed to start at the bottom of the hill, walking up the hill on the same sidewalk, in the opposite direction towards Peter. George will also be facing backward as he's walking uphill. Peter and George will be choreographed and directed to walk at such a pace as to meet halfway as they're both going backward towards each other. Once they pass each other still walking backwards of course, only then will they be able to see each other, each one receding from the other as they increasingly go either up to the top of the hill or down to the bottom of the hill. Now the camera work will have to capture them in a kind of a total way which will be difficult because we don't want the camera to be too far away but it has to capture the whole scenario from each one beginning to walk all the way to ending at the top and at the bottom. There could be more than one camera or close-ups but I don't want there to be any editing or splicing or cheating -- it has to be one take, and the cameras have to reflect and capture the one take. Now here's the punchline: after the whole thing is filmed then the cameras or projectors are to play the film backwards so that it looks like each one, Peter and George, is not walking backwards but is actually walking forwards on their respective trajectories up and down the hill. One effect of this will be that even though they seem to be walking normally forward, their gait will look strangely awkward because they will have been actually walking backward on a hill, causing their body movements to be strange. And yet, there's nothing strange about them walking forward on a sidewalk up or downhill from the audience's perspective, so the audience will experience some optical cognitive dissonance going on.

I've gotten a few ideas for movies from my dreams - actually wrote at least 1 screenplay based on one of them.

I've had an idea for some time now, though - we like to do those "these two actors look alike" threads here. I've had an idea for a film noir starring Elias Koteas and Christopher Meloni as brother detectives living in Paris who are trying to solve a murder.

Alternately, a movie about two brothers/cousins: Jeffrey Dean Morgan as an American chef, Javier Bardem as a Spanish chef, and they meet up in Europe. And solve a murder.

I would have tried writing them but I can't write mysteries.

Oh, so that's where the systemic racial & sexual inequities are! Makes sense...

I would like to see scifi and historical film makers turn their eyes to the archaological sideshow where these unofficial researchers and scientists claim that ancient civilizations had their own technologies such as power tools and electricity and self propelled vehicles. This makes great story material as the setting would involve tribal like people playing with their own stylized version of technologies we use today. Make it realistic and add elements of mystery, a bit of that ethereal Zeppelin mythos and you could have some very captivating movies. Dont go overboard with the liquid SFX, dont over cartoonize anything, keep it believable, primordial, let it tug at that mystery nerve that drives LoTR fans.

A story of a man who gave everything and risked everything for his students.

The Truth About Spies

Story of a government agency spying on civilians of potential value, using one of their targets as an example. They have contained their target and manipulated him into isolation, they're betting on his abilities to carry their agenda. Theyre using him as bait and using him to give them great ideas that pay off well, except he's onto them and their game and he refuses to cooperate.

This movie would examine and bring to light the mental limitations and sicknesses found in spies who, while working for government agencies, are often far sicker than the civilians they are accusing (often falsely) and entrapping.

One scene would portray the spy spying on his target whom hes entrapped, shows how hes obsessed with his target and uses manipulation to get his target to act out in a way he likes, because, hes filming and recording his target without his knowledge and this situation has become a sick sort of reality TV for the spy and absolute pain for his innocent target. So the spy, after hes isolated his target, cutting off real connections, and filling in those gaps with undercover actor pawn agents, hes got his target in the palm of his hand, and knowing what this particular targets value and worth potential is, hes betting on total control to allow him to profit from his targets own success, but in order to do that he must maintain total control. His target slowly becomes aware of this and fights back, trying to reclaim his freedom that this spy has so cleverly taken away.

In another scene youll see the spy stalking his unawares target after spying on him in his home, and the spy has a mental problem where, after disconnecting his target from meaningful life with real people, he starts to believe that his target is his friend. The spy has the same attitude that human traffickers get over their kidnapping victims, an oversized ego and a sharp mental problem. The spy tries to interract with his target and what gets him off the most is the target has no idea whatsoever its him spying on him, and this becomes part of the game, as the spy teases his target and makes a mockery of him.

In the story, as the spy and his pawns agitate, harrass and manipulate their innocent target, their target inches closer to reclaiming freedom, and as he does they start to threaten him and press harder, abusing their givernmental powers to the max. And this movie would show the truth about spies, that they are perverts, intollerable, mentally unbalanced and invasive and were their actions shown to the world, most anyone would be be disgusted.

Another aspect of this movie would explore how these spies are actually fanboys in uniform, getting factoids for the politicians they work for, whom are power abusing homos hiding behind the power of their straight titles to protect them, and how they use their access to vast government resources (taxpayers contributions) under the guise of legitimate use, but in actuality, used to serve some sick perversion and play games with their targets, ending valuable lives, killing economic potentials, serving petty personal desires at the sacrifice of huge successes.

A scene that depicts how they turn their serious job into an abusive game would show a meeting where the head spy is at a dry erase board explaining their targets daily routine, what little visual clues they can leave for him to see on his way to where he is going in order to cause unease and psychological disruption, sort of like, he is explaining in full detail what the purpose of these tactics are but in a way that some hot shot full of himself would talk about it, with that shit eating grin control obsessed jerks get when they hit the jackpot. Hes in control, hes making this guys life shit and it gets him off like no other. Perhaps hes jealous that hes not worth as much when you drop the resource facade and get out the measuring stick.

His pawns joke back and forth about things they can do to torment their target. They make real good light out of the fact they're completely in the clear and can do whatever they want, nobodies going to stop them. They discuss their targets family and connections and friends and how they can infiltrate them and disconnect them from each other and so forth, giving a deep impression of the worst of homewreckers. This all revolves around entrapping the innocent, setting them up and luring them into circumstances that would push them into wrong action, anything really to cause an aura of guilt around the innocent target, even if they have to spread horrible lies, they will, and surely they do.

Theres a long list of spy tactics, like a tell-all for the viewer, a sort of, let everyone in on the good stuff. In this way this movie would be like an affirmation and educative walkthrough for those who suspect theyre being spied on. This movie would display how spies shush their targets to prevent them from seeking help and how they use emotion controlling interpersonal manipulations to depress heir target into inaction. Seige and control is the name of the game here, they surround, disrupt connections, isolate, control then... in this case, get taken to the slaughterhous (its a movie).

In another scene a homo president who is no longer in office, completely covered up and hidden from public knowledge, protected by a batallion of undercover homo marines who worship him like the savior homo as he is the most highly protected homo on the planet, this perverted little disgusting almost-man has set his sights on the target in this spy movie, as the target has caused his spies so much frustration at his full-on resistance to their entrapment and brainwashing techniques, they were forced to request their homosavoir presidents assystance. This adds a new intense layer of complexity to the story near the end of the movie that can be used to launch the big ending sequence wherein the homo president is secretly killed by a rogue agent who sees that the target is innocent and entrapped and this event causes the spies to decide to execute their target. This results in a firefight where the target barely escapes alive and in the aftermath of the showdown the assassin agent testifies on his behalf as the assassination gets covered up because whatdoyuno everyone hated (except his brainwashed homo marines) him and they worked together to replace him with one of his body doubles.

Serial Killer in a Simulation

How does the baddie keep getting away? How can he be so cruel and so casual? Because it really is just a game! Our detective must learn of his/her unreality and grapple with it. You wake up in The Matrix, but Neo is the killer and you're just an NPC.

I've proposed this for a long time, but it's because so many superhero movies are so formulaic. There's almost always some huge disaster that must be prevented as the climax.

So I'd like to see a superhero film that's more like "a day in the life of..." There's no water supply that's threatened, no bomb about to go off, no deadly toxin being unleashed. The whole movie would be more like the typical introduction montage (think of Robocop or Superman or Batman or Spider-Man's first night out type of thing.) Perhaps the big "threat" plot of the movie could be a poor kid who gets no media coverage is abducted so the hero hunts down the abductors... and that's it. The rest of the movie is spent on character study and cool crime fighting stuff... no huge plot to build, no fascinating interconnection of details or convoluted connection between the villain and the hero's origins, or no earth-shaking climax to work up to.

Would people like such a movie that doesn't follow the formula? Two hours of a hero just beating the crap out of criminals just to save a few innocent lives (as opposed to an entire city or country?) I think I'd like it.

Heh, that's kind of the plot to Harvester, actually:
