Fulci is correct.
Fifth Cord is pretty good, and features cinematography by Vittorio Storaro, so obviously nice to look at.
Fulci is a bit of an acquired taste, as his movies can have weird pacing and goofy moments, even compared to Argento. But he also gets nightmare logic better than most directors. I'd say The Beyond is the best place to start.
