Raimi + Coen Bros = Crimewave (1985)

Quirky, ambitious, cartoonish, energetic. Rough edges everywhere and a shoestring budget. This one is a good litmus test for a viewer's sense of humor (people love it or hate it).

Bruce Campbell basically invents his "shtick" in this film.

Sam is still learning how to be a director, but there is no mistaking his style.

The Coens wrote it and it has a similar vibe to Raising Arizona in terms of being zany and cartoonish.

Great bits and some great lines.

Paul (Bluto) Smith and Brion (Leon) James are the finest vermin exterminators.


I'm a fan.

I remember having a hard time believing that that was the same Brion James from other films where he is more physically menacing. Leon and the Beast Rabban. Partners in crime.
