Have you guys seen rounders? I love that movie! What do you guys think about it?

It's above average, but not great.

Love it. It's very well-acted, well-shot, and it keeps you guessing. It also employs enough poker terminology to feel genuine, but not so much so that it excludes the layman. One of Damon's better roles, but Edward Norton's performance is easily the most impressive.

And John Malkovich's Russian gangster, complete with uber-thick accent, somehow manages not to sound too ridiculous.

One of my personal favorites.

And in the end nobody actualy wins with a royal flush! LOL. That always happens.

I love the part when they are in the casino. Taking away all those peoples money. Gotta Luv It!!!

The ending was really ruined when Malkovich's "tell" was so obvious a third grader would have spotted it years ago. It would have been better if Malkovich had been setting him up by having such an easy tell that Damon would spot it, then after he took the bait he crushes him.

Eh, above average, and not great. California Split, The Gambler, The Cincinnati Kid, A Big Hand for the Little Lady, Bob le Flambeur and The Good Thief are all much better than Rounders. You can bet the house on that.

A system of cells interlinked
I love A Big Hand for a Little Lady, as far as gambling flicks are concerned. I did enjoy Rounders as well. Maverick stunk.

This is the one with Matt Damon and Edward Norton? Excellent film. Although, as I was a law student when I saw the film, I do have a hard time believing that ANY law student could dedicate that kind of time to gambling and be as successful as he was. Lead counsel??? Pshaw! It takes a lot of work to get to where he was, and you dont lightly give that up to be a gambler. If he was having those kind of misgivings about the law---I doubt he would have put in the kind of work necessary to be as successful as they made him out to be.

Hmm. Of course he could have just been brilliant..... College? Yes, I could see it. Law School? Only a select few.

Well he got into law because he could read people so much.. I play all the time (poker) and its hard to get reads. The way he could he would be great at knowing if ppl are lieing.

"reading" people is half the battle. It was a good film though. High on my list of candy...

I didn't find it as obvious, though I wasn't really looking for it. The idea of spotting someone's "tell" was discussed once or twice briefly, but not dwelled on. I went into the film's finale not really expecting that it would all come down to spotting Teddy KGB's "tell." It was foreshadowed, but only slightly.

Frankly, life is full of simple explanations we overthink or fail to notice. I like the film all the more for the same reasons you don't.
