Sad songs are the best songs

You can't make a rainbow without a little rain.
Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss - Whiskey Lullaby

I like that song GBG, but prefer it without the vid. Some things are best left to the imagination

Sorry about that. I've heard the song so many times that I didn't even watch the video.

@gbg Of course I listened to the lyrics, that's why I said something about it. I know the song ends in redemption but It starts by more telling the story of her abuse by two 'non believers' who didn't take her to church. i just don't like the tone of that, as if being religious or not has anything to do with child abuse. Sorry GBG.

It's a tough song to listen to, so it's not a song that I listen to a lot, but it definitely qualifies as a sad song for this thread.

Maybe you'll like this song more. It's a lonely breakup song.

Davis Daniel - For Cryin' Out Loud

"For cryin' out loud, just look at me
A helpless, hopeless case of endless misery
For cryin' out loud, what happened to the man who walked so proud
I just can't help myself, for cryin' out loud.
"

But if you keep this up, I might have to find a song about someone dying during a shoot-out while rustling cattle.
Sounds good - any chance you can find one where it's one of the horses that does the shooting?

I know some rodeo songs, but I can't think of any where the horse uses a gun. I guess this song will have to do for now.

Michael Martin Murphey - Wildfire

Is it ok for me to feel ever so slightly let down?
(do appreciate the effort though)

Maybe you should write it.
@Swan ..... if anyone can write this song I know it's you .... help a little rodent out meinem compadre!!

All I can come up with is "Bang bang, my horsey shot me down" and I dunno why but I get the feeling I'm plagiarising

P'raps horses do BAD things when they're drunk
Neigh, neigh and thrice neigh - I find that impossible to believe!
I simply WON'T believe it!!!
Take it back, you Jezebel you!!!!

You can't make a rainbow without a little rain.
But getting away from the horses and back to sad songs, here's one that I love.

Joe Barnhill - It's All Coming Back to Me Now

"And it's all coming back to me now.
You said I'd live to regret it,
You hurt me somehow.
You got what you wanted,
My world's upside-down.
And it's all coming back to me now.
"

Billie Holliday - Strange Fruit

You can't make a rainbow without a little rain.
For anyone who is interested, I opened the thread for the Sad Songs Song Tournament. It won't start until after the current 'Across the Decades' Song Tournament is over, but you can start posting your nominations in the thread now.

You can't make a rainbow without a little rain.
Wade Hayes - I'm Still Dancin' With You

"'Cause I'm still dancin' with you.
I know we said we were through.
But I keep holdin' on,
Letting go is just too hard to do.
Even when I'm holding someone new,
I'm still dancin' with you.
"

You can't make a rainbow without a little rain.
Lee Greenwood - Ring On Her Finger, Time On Her Hands

"She had a ring on her finger and time on her hands.
The woman in her needed the warmth of a man.
The gold turned cold in her wedding band.
It's just a ring on your finger,
When there's time on your hands.
"
