Tentacles... why?

Tools

This is a phenomenon you probably already noticed:

If it's sci-fi or horror it better have tentacles.

Why?

Not all sci-fi and horror has tentacles...

But, I will say that when tentacles do appear, it's usually in a sci-fi or horror
Let's face it, nothing else tends to work with them... unless it's romance... and if a "romance" movie has tentacles, it's usually Hentai.

Some recent sci.fi do have et's with tentacles [the Mist] depicted.

I'm on board with the Lovecraftian thing, though personally Lovecraft doesn't do much to me [he had dome interesting stuff... but with tentacles]

Well, movies like The Mist are fantasy-horror.
The Mist is a decent movie tbh though, it's got a huge psychological edge when Mrs Carmody goes full-on nutball... just some of the CGI is a bit skewy.

I kind of like it that way. It makes the movie feel like a throwback to the 50's-70's kind of horror I love.

Speaking of which, c'mon...It Came From Beneath The Sea with it's bargain basement octopus? That was COOL when I was growing up.

Star Wars has been on a pretty big tentacle kick with their recent films lately.

Perhaps it'll be revealed that Snoke is an octopus.
I wouldn't be surprised

I'm a huge fan of H P Lovecraft and so always chuckle when tentacles are in movies (like the Arrival) as all my friends tell me I HAVE TO SEE IT as it has Lovecraftian undertones lol
For me I find tentacles a much more unsettling choice not because of the Great Old Ones (Be it Cthulhu, Shud M'ell or any more of the Mythos) but because the lack of bones allows for a much more strange and inhuman movement than a clawed hand or somesuch. There's just something damned eerie about an appendage that squirms and writhes unbidden and can wrap you up like a Boa and drag you to your doom.

I know what anime-porn is called, i meant that tentacles are often featured in non-porn anime as well so i was separating the two.

Thought this would be like the Moe thread.

Sorry man, wasn't implying you didn't.

Moe? I'm guessing that's one of SC's threads [just a guess though, he does seem to have a peculiar sense of humor].

It's cool was just clarifying.

Nah, it was Guaps an anime fan here. It wasn't supposed to be funny and just turned into a really dull endless argument.

Ouch.

Well, don't expect me to go into dull endless arguments. I'm rather to the point.

It's because of that perv called hokusai apparently, or it's not?

Ah, Dream of the Fisherman's Wife (1814 I think).

But does "Bride of the Monster" REALLY qualify as either sci-fi OR horror?
