Oh. no-no-no. Of course he should try Shinkai! But I'd advise to watch his works chronologically. Of course, it's IMHO but his "She and Rer Cat" is GREAT for a short b/w anime! And then "Voices of a Distant Star" I consider a real masterpiece! I've seen some hundreds of animes but didn't find anything better than "Voices of a Distant Star". It's my IMHO, I repeat)
P.S. I'm GMT +3, so it's almost 9 pm here)))

Well. I wouldn't say no to Summer Wars.

Voices will hook anyone. It's flawless. I haven't seen the Cat one. What did you think about The Place Promised in Our Early Days?

Whoops, haven't heard before of Summer Wars. Think it's worth watching) The Place Promised in Our Early Days - I thought that it was called Beyond the Clouds - The Promised Place. Watched that in a noisy company. Unfortunately that spoiled the impression. Besides it was about 2 yers ago. But I liked it and gonna re-watch alone) What's for 5 Santimetres - I think it has the same lvl as She an Her Cat, can't be compared to Voices.
- She and Her Cat, english hardsubs

Anyone seen Porco Rosa??
Is it any good?

Ive seen it couple of times now (Porco Rosso) its really not bad, maybe the absence of "fantasy" elements makes it less appealing to most Ghibli fans but,it has its charms and is pretty original in comparison with other Miyazaki films, (except for the element of flying and the portraitation of woman as strong beings )
Worth to watch at least once.

Thought he lost everything, then he lost a whole lot more.
Searching the internet I managed to find out a pretty decent Japanese Anime Movie Guide.
http://animemovieguide.com/movie-guide

I knew most of the Ghibli ones, but many others were new to me.
I managed to get my hands on two of the films listed (Cencoroll and Summer Wars) and they seemed pretty good.
In the future I’ll probably check out some of the more obscure ones.

Angel's Egg (1985) - this as well.
Oh yeah, I don't see many people post this film, but it's great.

Mind Game is high quality as well.
