Gene Hackman and wife found dead

Wow. All three of them and it's "no foul play"? I have lots of good recollections of Gene. I also can't imagine that something's not foul there, perhaps a murder-suicide? It doesn't make any sense otherwise.
Yeah, I heard the "no foul play" report also and thought, even if it was some kind of suicide pact, taking one's own life is still considered a form of foul play as both suicides & homicides are forms of murder (either of oneself or of another).

No foul play suggests completely natural or accidental causes as opposed to an intentional, human cause.

That’s exactly what tripped me up! I’m very used to journo-speak due to the nature of my job, but that was infuriatingly misleading.

A system of cells interlinked
I'm going to have to find time to squeeze in a rewatch of my favorite Hackman performance, The Conversation.
I was just watching some of this at lunch while I ate.

"How'd you do it Harry?"

I will be interested in following this story. Even at 95 one can have a sad ending

RIP

Gene Hackman. I missed him already because he retired, but now I really miss him.

The Adventure Starts Here!
I'm guessing it's just carbon monoxide poisoning. The same thing killed both of "Weird Al" Yankovic's parents a few years ago as they slept in their beds.

They were found in different rooms apparently and his wife was found with pills in the bathroom, so she could have been going for some headache/nausea pills due to carbon monoxide poisoning but was too weak and collapsed in the bathroom.

Makes sense for the carbon monoxide due to the dog dying too.

Be surprised how many people don't have carbon monoxide detectors. Nearly half the country don't here in the UK.

Sad news.
Well a bit of a tragic way to go, but at least it was likely quick and painless.

Hopefully he didn't know about his wife. RIP both.

The county’s top cop added the couple could have “been victims of a double homicide, suicide, accidental death,” or simply died from “natural causes.”

It’s gonna be interesting to follow this case through. At first I thought maybe it was a peaceful kind of mutual suicide at old age, but after reading a bit it all seems super weird.

Hopefully it’s gonna be resolved someway somehow.

Rest in peace to all. Including the dog.

"Honor is not in the Weapon. It is in the Man"

Hollywood lost one of its all-time greats, Gene Hackman, who along with his wife and dog, passed away last night. He was 95.

Their deaths are currently a mystery in New Mexico as there's no signs of a foul play, yet there was no sign of a gas leak. Nevertheless, RIP to one of the GOATs!

At least they're going to investigate this one.

Whitney was found in a bath tub of scalding hot water, with numerous cuts and bruises including to her hands, and with conflicting stories about who found her, who ran the bath, whether the taps were still running when she was discovered etc, a matter of hours after her daughter had been found asleep in an overflowing bath that had flooded the same hotel floor, when she seems to have had lunch with someone in her room the identify of whom has not been identified, and when one of the people who claims to have found her has said she was very surprised ("what the hell?") to open the door and see that the lights were out, although in fact it would still have been daylight hours. And the coroner at the scene simply recorded accidental death.

It probably was accidental death, although her daughter drowned in the bath a couple of years later whose partner - who was also in the vicinity when Whitney died - was held responsible in a civil court. Whitney's death should have been checked more thoroughly.

Trouble with a capitial 'T'
I have a guess as to what happened but I'm not going to say as I don't think it's cool to speculate too much when there's little known about what happened.

I have no interest in talking about the circumstances around his death, only that he was probably the best actor of his generation. And I think he could go pound for pound with any actor in any generation.

Legend.

The Guy Who Sees Movies
It's gonna be a while to resolve this one, not to mention teasing out some sort of reality from the conspiracy theories. I can't really say that I thought of him as a "greatest", but he certainly did a decent job, especially with odd characters.

I don't know much about his life off-camera... which is good.
A lot of times these days when I learn about a celebrity's real life, I end up liking them less.

Gene just seemed to me like a regular person who had the job of acting (at least that's the vibe I always got). This is in contrast to some "stars" today who just seem like they're in it for the fame & fortune.

Or I could be off base since, like I said, I didn't know much about his real life.

I don't know where peoples brains are going to the point where they think a 95 year old killed himself. I think it's pretty obvious he died (or euthanized) and then she killed herself.

What's not being brought up and should be the main topic was how did three adult children not check in on their 95 year old father. Because the bodies were found by a random person not a wellfare check, not a family member a pest control guy. And it sounds like the bodies were there for weeks.

And they had three dogs the two dogs that had access to outside survived the third was in a kennel.

His daughter has said she hadn't seen him in the past few YEARS because he didn't travel much. (She is in California and he was in New Mexico... she couldn't go visit HIM?) That's the part that is awful---it had been weeks without any contact and that wasn't a red flag for any family member.

I'm still saying carbon monoxide poisoning. It's been proposed that the wife was near pill bottles with spilled pills because she may have been trying to find something for a severe headache. (Carbon monoxide will cause nasty headaches before you go unconscious. So, if she woke up at some point and noticed the headache, she might have been grabbing something for the headache.)

The fact that the gas company said there was no leak doesn't preclude the possiblity of a carbon monoxide issue in the house with any number of appliances or devices. It just means no fault lies with the gas company itself.

The fact that a dog died too, and there were no other signs of injury or foul play in any of the three makes me come back to the carbon monoxide theory. Gosh, I'm hoping that's what it was because it could easily mean that they just peacefully went to bed, unaware of what was going on.

doesn't the pill bottles bring in a possible deliberate OD?
