Things that annoy you...

You mean me? Kei's cousin?
The fact that my little sister won't wear socks... Her toenails are scarier than any horror film.

They said no they won't.
I presume you spoke to a supervisor?

Could not believe my eyes just now. Saw my first fully-decorated Xmas tree of the season. And it’s not even Thanksgiving yet.
There's a joke which goes along the lines of this.

(Remember that we have Firework Night over here on the 5th of November)

I think it's awful that every year they start selling fireworks earlier and earlier. We've been hearing them almost every night since September. They terrify my cat and it's not even fireworks night yet. Last night the poor thing was so scared she climbed our Christmas tree and ruined the decorations.

Obviously fake blood – i.e. bright red, like paint – in many films .

Do you guys watch V for Vendetta on this date?

Thinking back to being a kid it does seem as though 5th November was the only night there were fireworks. There must have been some at New Year though, same as now.

I wanted to mention this somewhere on this site, but wasn't sure where... (your post solved the problem).

Not long ago came across the movie Earthquake (1974) on TV...

Now, Earthquake was a serious film, it may have been a 70's disaster film often associated with campiness, but was still handled seriously as a drama.

So I caught this scene where an elevator full of people falls from a skyscraper to the doom of everyone inside! (Horrifying, yes?) But at the second the elevator crashes at the bottom of the shaft, the screen is filled with a second-long animation of a blood splat! I mean... it's looks like something out of Bugs Bunny (although they never used blood)! It's an animated blood splat that "pops up" like the comic book sound effects on the old Batman TV series ("ZAMMO!").

Most bizarre thing I've ever scene. It might have fit in a comedy, but can't believe they did this in a major disaster film - so hokey! Did they think no one would notice? And the juxtaposition of such a horrifying scene that culminates in an animated pop-up is just - it leaves you not knowing what to feel.

We used to love Bonfire Night. A lot of our grade school little friends didn’t have a backyard like we did so they came to us. A lot of adults came too. Vivid memory is a friend of my oldest brother - Christopher Hazelwood - had a firework go off in his box of fireworks & they all ignited at once. He was devastated. Funny the things one remembers.

Yeah – similar memories of being in the back garden with neighbours. Very cold. Mum cooking sausage rolls, Dad lighting the bonfire and fireworks .

I know people who have. I don't think I know anyone who does every year though. I could be wrong. You certainly see those masks a lot more around this time of year.

Nice little quirk of fate that Patrick Troughton played Guy Fawkes in Gunpowder Guy, then his first Doctor Who story, The Power of the Daleks, was broadcast on November 5th (sadly it no longer exists except as the soundtrack and in animated form).

Right. I seem to recall baked potatoes? I know we didn’t have anything fancy to eat.

Yeah – baked potatoes ; actual sausages. I remember marzipan being involved too, somewhere….

People who do not actually read the forms they fill out.

Just had some a-hole go off on me about a section in his pet's anesthesia release form (it explained the possibility of the need to extract teeth during the dental cleaning), angrily demanding that we call him before we pull any of his dog's teeth. The form gives an option to request a phone call prior to extractions, which he would have seen if he'd bothered to actually read it. He'd also completely skipped over the section of the form that asks for a phone number to call during the procedure if we need to contact him.

Part of that problem is too many forms - people have become numb to them and stop reading them because of the overwhelming overuse.

I can't speak to veterinarians offices, but I know with taking my parents to doctors - sometimes up to six or seven pages of double-sided forms!

For some elderly people, it can take them up to 45 minutes to fill them all out. And what is really annoying is they may have already filled all these out just a couple months ago. Everything's supposed to be electronic, so why can't this info be forwarded between care-givers or pulled up in a database for a repeat patient?

What's also annoying is the Dr. will then ask the patient questions that were answered multiple times on the forms - demonstrating that they NEVER even look at the forms.

This gets really dangerous when it comes to prescription medicines - most Drs. will not look at the list the patient has provided on the form before prescribing another medicine that may have contraindications to something the patient is already taking.

At one specialist my mom was at a second time, they had her filling out the "book" of forms - I asked, since she'd just filled them all out a month before, couldn't they just retrieve those forms and simply ask if there are any changes. They said it was "impossible" to pull out her old forms. I asked what if I were a lawyer representing someone suing your boss for malpractice, would you be able to pull those forms out then? They replied, "Of course."
So I asked, "Then why can't you just pull them out of the file now?"
They answered "Because that's impossible."

His dog was coming in for a dental cleaning and an oral surgery. Both procedures require anesthesia. The law requires that we inform the owner - in writing - of the risks of anesthesia each and every time their pet is anesthetized. It's also absolutely critical that we obtain the best telephone number for contact every single time.

The form he was asked to fill out is three pages, single sided. The first page has a single paragraph section that briefly outlines the risks of anesthesia and a single paragraph section informing the owner of required treatment if their pet is found to have fleas or other parasites. It also has a place for the owner to fill out the best phone number for contact. The second page has two paragraphs that explain the potential for tooth extractions and gives the owner the option to either authorize any extractions in advance or to request a phone call prior to extractions. The longest of these sections is seven sentences long. The shortest is two sentences long. The third page is just a brief questionnaire about the pet's health - appetite, thirst, vomiting/diarrhea, activity level, etc. and a place for the owner to write any additional concerns. The questions on the third page are all yes or no, with boxes for the owner to check.

He was not elderly. He was just lazy and short-tempered.
