I know, I know. Shatner's 60s effort, The Transformed Man is probably quite kitsch if you're 19 and haven't heard too many records (it's terrible, really) but his more recent effort, Has Been, is actually rather decent in parts.

This track, with Ben Folds and, I think, Aimee Mann, is genuinely affecting.

Here's a fact! In terms of days of partial deafness after the fact, David Gedge's boys are the loudest band I've ever experienced. Maybe, of course, it was a hall acoustics/too close to speakers problem causing an artificial 'these go up to eleven' moment but I remember that a number of people I was with were also walking around with strange (well, stranger than usual) looks on their faces for a few days afterwards.
