Oh fooey on modesty! 
if their mother is any indication, I'm sure your boys are among the brightest spots on the academic horizon. 
still though, I have to admit that I have seen occasions where even academically, the child(ren) has/ve been capable of it, but the parents needed to have stepped up to the bat and really worked it to help their child(ren), and it hasnt happened.
ah well. I suppose we're full circle back to the fact that we are all products of our upbringing, which can be either really depressing or really good (or somewhere in the middle, or more normally a rollercoaster b/t the two).
I just think stuff like this sucks.
