I'm a big fan of Northern Exposure.

My biggest complaint with TV series coming out on DVD is that they STILL haven't released Twin Peaks Season 2... I want to know who killed Laura Palmer damnit and I'm not going to break down and watch the bastardized movie version. There should be some sort of law requiring production companies to release the next season if the previous season has a big cliffhanger ending... Yup, I think I'll write my congressperson (gotta be pc).

I really want to watch Twin Peaks, it was on before my time and my only real chance to see it is on DVD. Also, my bloody film teacher showed my class the start and end of it, so really really want to see it.

"Bastardized movie version"? It's not like Twin Peaks: Fire, Walk with Me was made by Joel Schmuacher or something. How can David Lynch continuing to explore the world he created be "bastardized"?

The second season of "Twin Peaks" just isn't as good as the first. The first is damn near perfect, and those first eight episodes or so may be the finest work Lynch has ever done. But the question of "Who killed Laura Palmer?" was never meant to be answered in any conventional way. The network pressured Lynch to give the audience answers, but his heart was never in it and the second season doesn't have the same spark of creativity those initial episodes did. It's more like just going through the motions, too often playing like a parody of itself.

I still want them to release season two on DVD, for sure, but it's not near the top of my wishlist. More seasons of "The Larry Sanders Show"...now THAT is a frippin' priority, Man.

Sure it's not a priority for you Holden... You've already watched the series! I've been waiting years to see the 2nd season, so heck yeah it's a priority!

Also, the reason I call it a bastardized version is b/c, similar to your argument, this wasn't meant to be a straight forward series and certainly not one that's resoved in an hour and a half. Kind of like sex, sure the ending's the best part, but it's also quite bit of fun getting there!

Have you even SEEN Fire, Walk with Me? If you think there's a heck of a lot of plot resolution going on there, you have been sadly misinformed.

And if you don't know who it was that physically killed Laura Palmer by the end of the first season, you haven't been paying attention. The "why" is more difficult to say (though not much easier after season two and/or the movie either), but the "who" should be clear.

Is it possible to watch the 1st season on its own and not need to bother watching the 2nd to get the Twin Peaks experience?

I just got both Family Guy box sets. Even though this show can get really stupid sometimes, I still love it.

Yes. The Log Lady's log told me so.
