Vampire Movies

Lost in never never land
One of my pet interests has been vampires (in both movies and literature). I have seen the majority of recent vampire movies, and I was wondering if people had any that they would recommend. I have seen:

Van Helsing
Underworld
Underworld: Evolution
Interview with a Vampire
Ultraviolet
The Lost Boys
Dracula 2000
Queen of the Damned
Blade: Trinity
Dusk Till Dawn

And I have Brom Stoker's Dracula around my place that I have yet to see. I was wondering if there are any good ones that I have missed.

Well, they aren't "recent" as in the last few years, but a couple great ones from the '80s to track down ASAP are Near Dark and Fright Night.

There hasn't been a decent vampire movie since the late 70s.

Besides, most recent 'vampire' flicks are actually martial arts movies with bad dental work...

Okay, I skipped watching those two since the third one was so bad. However, if those are better (since the third one did have potential which it failed to meet up to miserably), I will have to check them out.

That is generally true, but some of them on that list have delved into the back story of the origin of vampires and other back stories. But Ultraviolet is the sorriest excuse for a vampire movie ever, and is a sorry excuse for a movie ever as well.

So many good movies, so little time.
Dracula (1931) remains THE Vampire movie

Nosferatu (1922) is great

and I like the comedies

The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967)
Love at First Bite (1979)

-From dusk til dawn
-John Carpenter's vampires
-Dracula, dead and loving it
-The Night flier
-Buffy the vampire slayer
-Jesus Christ, Vampire hunter
-Sundown-the vampire in retreat(havent seen it myself but I've heard it's good)

In alphabetical order, here are my favorites....

Blade (1998)
Blade II (2002)
Blade Trinity (2004)
Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)
Dracula (1931)
Fright Night (1985)
From Dusk till Dawn (1997)
Lost Boys, The (1987)
Near Dark (1987)
Night Watch (2004)
Nightbreed (1990)
Nosferatu (1922)
Underworld (2003)
Vampire Hunter D (1985)
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (2000)

These are just totally bad....

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997)
Dracula 2000 (2000)
Dracula 2001 (2001)
Dracula, Dead and Loving It (1995)
From Dusk till Dawn II: Texas Blood Money (1999)
From Dusk till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter (2000)
John Carpenter’s Vampires (1999)
Love at First Bite (1979)
Once Bitten (1985)
Queen of the Damned (2002)
Tales from the Crypt Presents: Bordello of Blood (1996)
Vampire in Brooklyn (1995)
Van Helsing (2004)
Wes Craven Presents: Dracula 2000 (2000)

The Fabulous Sausage Man
I love vampires, but I've seen very few that are any good. I'm in full agreement with the martial arts comment.

The best is easily Romero's Martin, even though - or perhaps because of - you are unsure if it really is a vampire movie.

And my top ten all-time would be...

1. Nosferatu (1922 - F. W. Mernau)
2. Near Dark (1987 - Kathryn Bigelow)
3. Fright Night (1985 - Tom Holland)
4. Shadow of the Vampire (2000 - E. Elias Merhige)
5. Vampire's Kiss (1989 - Robert Bierman)
6. Dracula (1931 - Tod Browning)
7. Dracula (1958 - Terence Fisher)
8. Nosferatu (1979 - Werner Herzog)
9. Love at First Bite (1979 - Stan Dragoti)
10. Lair of the White Worm (1988 - Ken Russell)

Fright Night had a sequal but no where near as good.

No, but it's not horrible either. It's certainly watchable, even if nowhere close to the quality of the first flick.

If you really like the Vampire genre, I recommend both the "Angel" and "Buffy the Vampyre Slayer" television series. They are very entertaining and are totally original takes on the Vampire mythos.

Too bad the original 'Buffy' flick sucked like sh*t.

The original Nosferatu hands down.
