How do they fake sex in movies?

I was wondering how they fake oral sex specifically, because when I see movies like Boy's Don't Cry or Basic Instinct for example, where it looks very real, I am wondering how they fake it. Is the woman's body below the belt, just a moving prosthetic gadget or what?

Well actually the reason was, me and some filmmakers are shooting an indie film project and there is a scene in the script where that happens, but I asked around and others don't know how they fake it, so that was the reason I was wondering.

Most women know how to "fake" sex or at least what is to be an interesting part of it..

Im no director of anything or a porn expert. But my guess is there is like a skin colored patch that goes over a womens area probably no different then when men where a sock or something over there johnson.

I figure you edit the women or man going down on i assume naked agreeing actress or however the person is laying in your scene and the person who is suppose to be given sex too just acts like she is being pleasured .

You dont do a close up on the face thats down there and just film actress from behind and the actress getting pleasured just acts like getting the buisness. I mean its not a porno its an indy film so you use editing and acting.

Oh okay, well in this scene particularly, the man's emotional reaction to it is more important for his character development so not sure how to show his emotions during it exactly, without doing a close up on the face.

If the actors appear to be nude in bed, film one crouched over the other at waist level and smiling before bowing his or her head. Then film the other with eyes closed and moaning and smiling. The audience will get the idea.

I feel so dirty now.

Okay thanks, but what if I want to show the guy's emotions during it, and not just before like that though? One movie I can think of is Blue Valentine, where the camera stayed on Ryan Gosling's face, but the actress had her leg moved up which blocked his face from any emotion being seen. What can I do to not block the face?

I could show her in shadow, but I think the audience would see it as obvious as how the shadow covers her, but not his face, how obviously convenient...

Make him a man with two heads and show the emotion on his other face.
You just gotta think laterally sometimes.

Best thread yet, Ironpony!
I agree.

To add to the debate, the right kind of clothes matter too. Long skirts or big shirts can cover the important parts, while showing the entire act.

Strategically wrapped bedsheets could work too. Or towels.

Okay thanks everyone, I'll think of something .

We've all got problems .
