So, like, um, drunk Darwinism?
That should absolutely be the strapline

Although annoyingly at launch the fauna mainly varied in form, but barely in function. (Which is admittedly harder). I think they've added a few more locomotion types since then at least. (They experimented with sandworms too, but it turns out underground attacks weren't that fun. So they made them fly instead )

What now?

There’s even a logic system in place which the Hello Games team has used to build their own take on Rocket League on one planet
---

Bonus stuff:

Beyond brings a lot of new features to No Man’s Sky’s online offerings, including a space station where the 32 players on a server can all meet up to connect, chat and go out on missions together. It’s here that you can show off your ship, teleport to yours or other people’s bases and even form squads with groups of players to start going on missions with.
EDIT:

Aha, handy overview vid here:

So the 3rd Pillar is a revamp of everything that already exists . More features for farming, mining, base building (including logic gates & the Rocket League thing), explo language trails, NPCs in the wilds etc. And not having the update trammel you towards the 'one new thing' etc.

All sounds promising. The 'summonable' multiplayer hub & shared missions sound solid too. (And the VR lavishing, well, yess )

The weapons console progression all of a sudden got pretty challenging, with waves of sentinels attacking my base as I scurry about trying to stay alive while fending off radiation. I foolishly set up my initial base on a irradiated world, and though I have no established a new, bigger, better base on a more hospitable world, a couple of my consoles still remain on that initial base.

So, I get to this mission, and once the walkers show up, along with groups of the usual sentinels and a couple of doggos, the difficulty level went up considerably. I have a manual save just before the mission, and I am going to need to stock up with a ton of fuel for certain weapons and plenty of recharge materials if I am going to get by this one.

Other than that, my new main base is coming along nicely, I am into an A-Class shuttle and an A-class freighter at this point, and I feel like I have a pretty good foothold in my little corner of the galaxy.

Hey now, hype and NMS don't mix

I'm zooming along with a pet project so I can get it done by tomorrow though. Then I've got a few scant days to binge before I'm away from my kit for weeks. I'll take that though

(Will be around Thurs during day BST if anyone's about, and there's a slim chance I can wrangle some chat time on Fri or Sat night )

I will see what I can do about securing some playing time. I must first get by the natives, who begin to revolt if I attempt to play at the wrong times!

Yeah, you can kind of hear it in all the promo videos. It's all "gee, we think this might be a nice little addition, no promises though! Hope you like it! It's free still! No promises!"

Oh hell yeah. It's like negotiating an international trade deal round my way too

To be fair you've got a babby in the middle of the negotiations, that always throws a spanner into the works. Sometimes a squeaky zebra too...

Sean M has that look of a turtle who could shoot back into his shell at any time. He's really really excited to tell you about the sparkly crisp lettuce he's seen sparkling in the sun, butttt, he's also very much afraid you might eat his face

(Fair play to him though, I'm happy to see his impish eagerness back to be honest )

I generally tend to play after the family goes to bed on Fri/Say evening, or I may get up early with the baby on Sat/Sun morning and get her fed and changed, and then plop her into her play area or swing and she goes along for the adventure with me.

Meanwhile...I was trying to get a friend to play the game, but he won't try it, simply due to the fact that he thinks there is some sort of hidden catch or market angle I am not seeing yet.

"There has to be micro-transactions somewhere! You just wait...you will run into a pay wall soon. There is no way they would still support the game if you weren't going to pay more down the road. No one runs a business model where hey just keep upgrading and adding content after you just buy the base game."

His loss!

Haha, damn. Tell him it's called the 'Absolution Model' and it's working to date

I did manage to get past the mega battle with all the sentinels last night (I got a little play time in after the family went to sleep), and I must say, it was pretty damned fun. After that, I did some fleet stuff and then hit the sack.

Patch notes are fun:

Some lil bits they haven't mentioned to date:

GAMEPLAY BALANCE

Inventory limitations have been relaxed, allowing explorers to carry near-unlimited quantities of mined substances. The inventory UI has been revised and improved.

A large number of quality of life issues have been addressed, and new recipes and technologies have been added to alleviate grinding.

Examples include: large specialist Warp Cells; being able to move installed technology; being able to install technology in stages, similar to repairs; adding additional ramps to the Space Station; adding Mining Beam upgrades that increase resources gained; adding starship technologies that automatically recharge the Launch Thrusters; and restoring Carbon Planters.
BASE POWER SYSTEM

Planetary bases can now be powered by fueled biogenerators, or self-sustaining solar panels.

Wire up powered parts to the grid, and experiment with 5 varieties of logical switch to direct the flow of power.
IMPROVED BASE BUILDING

...the ability to jetpack while building...

...flexible new ways to scale and rotate base parts

INDUSTRIAL BASE BUILDING

Survey planetary surfaces for hidden deep-level mineral deposits, concentrated gas clouds, or electromagnetic hotspots.

Construct specialist industrial base parts in surveyed locations to take advantage of these hidden resources.

But really my instinct is to link all the VR cockpit / menu / gesture gifs

PS4 update has dropped - 11GB.

Not tried it yet but a couple of people on my friends list are complaining about VR being hella blurry. I thought about saying 'It's PSVR, it's sh***, what do you expect?' but I'm a charitable man who does charitable things.

No Steam update as yet. I shall report back on the superior blurriness of the Rift tonight

The People's Republic of Clogher
Yeah, when I saw that PS4 had patched I loaded up Steam and was a little puzzled that the update wasn't there. Consoles are usually last to get patches because of cert.

The People's Republic of Clogher
Played around with it for a bit, starting a new save. The game's definitely more streamlined but I've not seen any of the multiplayer stuff yet - I suspect that won't open up until you're out of the tutorial system.

It seems to be mainly hooked to the Anomaly. Once you've discovered it you can summon it at any time apparently, and it now acts as a hub (allowing players to meet up, select MP missions, teleport to each other's planets etc)
