In the movie, at the end, when Papillon is getting ready to escape by jumping in the sea, he asks Louis Dega why he doesn't want to come with him. His reply was that he wants to stay for the same reason that Papillon wants to leave. This doesn't make sense to me, what does he mean by this ? Papillon wants to leave to gain his freedom, how does Louis gain freedom by staying ?

To live? Papilon must escape to live. Lois thinks he will die trying. Louis is OK living on the island.
